A party favor has been found to save lives in the Iraq war and now, the Rural Metro Fire Department and Canoa Homes are teaming up to get as many cans of it as possible shipped to the troops.
When you think of the gear protecting our troops overseas, you probably wouldn't think of a can tattooed in hot colors proudly displaying the word goofy.
Anne Marie Sweeney/Rural Metro Fire: "An innovative attempt by one of our soldiers over there to figure out a way to save lives."
Goofy, silly...whatever you want to call it...these cans of silly string are saving lives.
Troops have found upon entering a house rigged with tripwires, just a quick pop of the party favor...and the lines magically appear.
Anne Marie Sweeney/Rural Metro Fire: "It doesn't trip the wires, therefore saving their lives and giving them a bearing on what they're about to walk in to."
Josh Benson: "Well, it's a little ironic something so silly can help with something as serious as death and it's nice to know others are stopping by help spread the string."
Gino and Raina Lizarraga look like they just bought some string for their daughter Naomi; but, in reality, they're donating to the cause both former military members.
Gino Lizarraga: "If it can help the troops, we're all for it...100%"
Raina Lizarraga: "We have all these high tech things now a days and they're using a child's toy."
Canoa Homes and Rural Metro are proud to cooperate in a collection that affects so many people, including themselves.
Anne Marie Sweeney/Rural Metro Fire: "For a lot of rural metro employees this is personal they have family members that are overseas serving our country or they themselves have ex-military experience."
And like care packages and greeting cards, another colorful reminder of home and if need be a lifesaver.
SILLY STRING FOR THE TROOPS!
That so cute every time I think of silly string I think of this ROFL
Q: Are the popping party favors and cans of Silly Strings good items to ship to troops, or do they have their own sources and/or would shipment be a problem?
Ya gotta wonder who tried this the first time. "No, Sarge... Really... ".
But it's just intuitively a great idea. Genius.
It's almost too cool to be true, though. How many spaces are really rigged with trip wires over there? Is it a common technique of the bad guys?
They are collecting cans of Silly String to ship over. My bet is they'll get all they can gather boxed up and over to Davis-Montham AFB and they'll get to the Combat Theater that way.
Someone better report this to OSHA.
When clearing buildings in a hostile area? Yep.
You forgot to call in Green-Peace, Al Gore, and the EPA. LOL
We have used it for about 10 years. We would clear "Impossible City" at Ft Ord, and EVERYONE had at least 2 cans of silly string.
The stuff really works, and the bad guys ARE wiring things everywhere.
This has been known long enough that I'd think the DoD would be shipping cases of the stuff over there by now, assuming there's such a great need.

Muzzy clerics say that the Jews make silly string from the intestines of Gods Muslim children.
Excellent. Makes me smile. :-)
Dang it; they hanged Saddam before he got to recount buying up as many Playstations as possible to get his air defenses up. I don't know if that story's true or not, but it certainly justifies guarding our technological edge.
Now how to implement the Super-Soaker...?
