from Christopher Walker, Jerusalem
About 40 Israeli volunteers have been fighting alongside the Serbs as a gesture of gratitude for Serb support for Yugoslav Jews against the Nazis in the Second World War.
The existence of the Israeli fighters - they do not like the term mercenaries - was revealed by Ron Ben Yishai, an Israeli war correspondent who was injured by Kosovo Liberation Army sniper fire this week while reporting from the province for the Tel Aviv daily Yediot Aharonot.
The paper said that all the Israeli fighters had emigrated to the Jewish state from the former Soviet Union and were part of a volunteer unit, the majority of whose members were Russians.
Mr Ben Yishai quoted one of the Israeli volunteers, named only as Valery, who recently returned home after fighting in Kosovo for a month, as saying: "We decided to fight alongside the Serbs as a token of our gratitude for the assistance the Serbs extended to the Jews of Yugoslavia who were persecuted by the Nazis in World War Two."
The Israeli fighter said that another reason that he had joined up was "identification with the Christian Slavs' fight against the Muslims trying to take over Europe".
Diplomatic observers noted that, at an earlier stage of the Yugoslav crisis, many Islamic volunteers - including former members of the Afghan Mujahidin rebels who had fought against the Soviet forces - fought alongside the Bosnian Muslims.
The Serbs were our allies in WWII. Clinton treated them like garbage. Glad to hear this.
Bully for them!!
I was part of Clinton's grand Albanian adventure and, at the time, I didn't care, I followed orders. I would have happily killed Serbs. In fact, I am fairly certain I did so, although it is hard to know sometimes.
That said, it was badly run from the top, and so we were largely ineffective.
And I am rather happy about that now.
And rather angry at Clinton.
"The Serbs were our allies in WWII."
So were Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
One wonders if there were any Israelis alongside Mladic's boys when they put an end to that "Never again" thing the Europeans had going since the end of World War II.
Good. The more the better.
I'd heard of Greeks and Russians, but not Israelis - do you have a source for that?
Machalniks in reverse!
About 40 Israelis fight alongside Serbs in Kosova (AFP)
JERUSALEM, June 10 (AFP) - About 40 Israeli men have been fighting alongside Serb forces against ethnic Albanians in Kosova, the Yediot Aharonot newspaper reported on Thursday. The Israeli volunteers, all recent immigrants from the former Soviet Union and ex-soldiers in the Red Army, fought primarily in mixed Russian-Serb units of the Yugoslav security forces, it said.
The newspaper's military correspondant, Ron Ben Yishai, said he encountered some of the Israeli volunteers during a trip this week to Kosova. He said the Israelis, some Jews but also non-Jews who married Jewish women and obtained Israeli citizenship, included veterans of fighting in Afghanistan and Chechnya.
The article and you posted and recent link refer to Israelis fighting alongside the Serbs in Kosovo - I was asking about Israelis fighting alongside the Serbs at Srebrenica.
Meanwhile, the secret services of Ukraine, Greece and Israel were busy arming the Bosnian Serbs. Bob's Note: Thank God the Russian Ukranians, Greeks, and the Israelis still remember that their friends are Christians and their enemies are Moslems. Mossad was especially active and concluded a deal with the Bosnian Serbs at Pale involving a substantial supply of artillery shells and mortar bombs. In return they secured safe passage for the Jewish population out of the besieged town of Sarajevo. Subsequently, the remaining population was perplexed to find that unexploded mortar bombs landing in Sarajevo sometimes had Hebrew markings.
US used Islamists to arm Bosnians
He also reveals that the secret services of Ukraine, Greece and Israel were busy arming the Bosnian Serbs. Mossad, Israel's secret service, was particularly active, concluding a substantial arms deal with the Bosnian Serbs at Pale in return for the safe passage of the Jewish population of Sarajevo, the Bosnian capital, Prof Aldrich says.
"Subsequently, the remaining population who could not escape was perplexed to find that unexploded mortar bombs landing in Sarajevo sometimes had markings in Hebrew," he writes.
You are the only one loony enough to support Jihad, Muslim irredentism and a greater Dar al islam
Allow me to restate the question - do you know of any Israelis who fought alongside Mladic's forces at Srebrenica?
That's your opinion and you're free to express it.
That it flies in the face of 7 years worth of Bush Administration Balkans policy is for you to sort out.
Have fun with that.
Hoppy posts here for self justification reasons. To try and make himself feel good about his anti Serb activities in the Balkans. He helped the Muslims, I'm not sure in what way. He was prolly some kind of social worker or NGO type
What exactly is your claim to fame in the Balkans? What did you do there that compels you to post here?
None of this is about me, Dennis, it's about you and your friend's inability to come to grips with the United States treating Serbia like a red-headed stepchild until Serbia straightens up and comes to terms with its actions under Milosevic in the 1990's.
For example, how's that Mladic extradition coming? Do you think that might affect America's policy towards Serbia and subsequently our policy towards Kosovo?
If it's easier for you to personalize the issue through me, rather than facing up to the answers to those questions, then you've also answered the question as to how worthy your opinion is in the first place.
Do you think America wants Mladic extradicted?
Too hard, I know.
Well, he is a very dedicated Dhimmi, you know.
Srebrenica! Squawk! Srebrenica! Squawk! The Serbs deserve to die because of Srebrenica! Squawk!
And all because the Moslem "soldiers" turned and ran for it.
As opposed to Hoppy's Albanian heroes who were too busy forming their own SS unit to support the Nazis.
Amin Al Husseini seen inspecting his Hanzar Division made up exclusively of Muslims, mostly from the Crotia/Bosnia/Serbia region. They actively lead the genocide against Serbs, Serbian Jews and Gypsies.
Amin Al Husseini meets with Adolf Hitler in November 1942, weeks before the decision to implement the Final Solution which sent Europe's Jews to the gas chamber. The Third Reich provided Amin Al Husseini with a salary and appointed him Head of the Hanzar SS Division. The Hanzar Division was made of Nazi Muslims and implemented the genocide of 250,000 Serbs, Gypsies and Jews during WWII.
Amin Al Husseini shown here on a Nazi poster recruiting fellow Muslims to join Hitler in the fight against the West and the Jews. His disciples today include Yasser Arafat, Saddam Hussein and the leaders of Hamas, Al Qeida and Islamic Jihad.

Yasser Arafat became a disciple of Amin Al Husseini since the age of 17. Here: recent picture of Palestinian soldiers under the leadership of Arafat making the traditional Nazi salute.
WWII . Amin Al Husseini spent most of the war in Berlin. He was on Hitler's payroll as he lead the Hanzar Division of Muslim SS and played a lead-role in determining the fate of Europe's Jewish community.. From Berlin, Amin Al Husseini helped organize the transfer of Nazi officers into the Middle East

Clown --- I thought you spent time in the Balkans "doing stuff" If this is true you sure don't seem proud of it. You are playing coy, why not brag about what you've done there? I'll listen
I doubt you think much, and if this is an indication, when you do, the result is inevitably incorrect.
You aren't too good at the reading comprehension thing, are you?
How's about we just say he gives them "lip service?"
Yeah, that's right. He's in public relations, kinda.
Lol, only if you don't snore.
Nothing personal, I understand chain of command.
But the war against Yugoslavia (round one in the war for the establishment of a muslim europe)is about the instance in history that I'd have supported mass desertions and outright mutiny.
I've noted here before that I cut off communications with friends (retired USA) who went over as advisers or consultants in an assault on people who had been our allies at a time when being our allies was a death sentence.
(I've also noted that I have known - known, not just met - some of the bomber crewmen that were saved by Yugoslav partisans)
Same here, a member of my church who passed-away only a year-and-a-half ago. One of the finest men I've ever known. He was pilot of a B-17 who was shot down and saved by the Serbs. Our war against the Serbs under Clinton was a moral obscenity which still taints us today.
Sounds about right to me
["...I was asking about Israelis fighting alongside the Serbs at Srebrenica."]
What's your point of proposing such a question? We both know what the answer is...don't we?
the lil shts comment about personalizing says enough about him, dennisw.
question to ask is how many Arabs, Chechnyans, American-Albanians, Cdn-Albanians, American/Cdn-Croatians, American/Cdn-muslims went over to fight alongside the Bosnian muslim Army? Then of those, how many committed ghastly atrocities?
Do you know if Hoppy has spent time in the Balkans making mischief?
