Shackled together at the wrist, the two brothers awaited their fate at the lonely jail in Donga Bonga, a cotton-farming backwater near Pakistan's sealed border with India.
They were poor men, barefoot farm labourers with pinched cheeks and calloused hands. But when they spoke, their bloodshot eyes flashed with cold steel.
Four days earlier Muhammad Aslam, 35, and Maqbool Ahmed, 40, had killed their younger sister and her lover. It was a crude, gruesome death: the pair were battered with a brick and strangled with an old rope. But the killers expressed not an ounce of remorse.
"We feel no shame. They had been warned," said Aslam, a slightly built father of eight. "We did it for honour," said Ahmed defiantly. "In our society a man without honour is nothing."
A man's pride exacts a high price in hidebound rural Pakistan. Almost every day a woman is beaten, clubbed or shot to death for what is euphemistically termed "adultery" - sex outside marriage. In most cases the killer is a father, brother or uncle.
"There's an increased brutalisation of society," said Kamila Hyat of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, which recorded about 300 so-called honour killings in 2006 - about the same number as the previous year.

See this what Islam does to a family
Muslims have no honor.
a repugnant and defiled people.
Good stuff from one of our allies in the WOT. /s
It's hard to feel any pity for either of these parties, but if I was forced to side with one, it would be the Donga Bonga Brothers.
This isn't peculiarly Islamic, though. It's tribal crap that predates Islam. The same thing goes on in India among the Hindus in the backwaters. And there are cases of Middle Eastern Christians doing it as well. Of course, Islam does nothing to ameliorate it.
We're gonna' go through a lot of ammo before this thing is over...
Sounds like gang members here in the states killing someone for "dissing" them. You don't demand respect or honor, you earn it.
True, modern barbarians.
muslims have no souls
Which one of us has those old Gatling guns stored away?
Their religious insanity aside, this is true. But that religious insanity trumped their honor, big-time!
The honorable thing to do would be to force them to kill each other in honor of their cult. Admission $1(US). :-)
In the context of this barbaric primitive society, it was actually very forward-thinking of them to issue a warning, and then only do the killings after the warning was ignored, and to kill the man too. Warnings are rarely issued, especially in cases where the relationship has gone as far as sex. Plenty of women/girls have been killed just for talking to a man/boy, and usually the man/boy isn't killed. And then there was the guy who killed his 2 or 3 young daughters last year, because he was afraid they MIGHT someday dishonor his family.
Hope these guys are enjoying their "honor", while shackled together at the wrist in a jail in Donga Bonga, awaiting trial in front of a judge who's likely to be unsympathetic.
OH so it is India still do this put widow in buring fire with her late husband ashes
You would side with the men who murdered their sister for "honor", by strangulation and beating her to death with a brick? And you feel no pity for the murdered woman and her lover? Are you certain you read the article correctly?
"The 35-year-old woman had left her husband a year earlier after a 10-year union that failed to produce any children. Shah started secretly courting Sain, sneaking into her bedroom in the compound she shared with her brothers."
In a society that elicits death for sex outside of marriage, I'd say this was pretty brazen, especially after being warned.
I wonder how much she considered Shah her lover. I think it sounds like he selected her as his lover. Any way you slice it. Its all just wrong and twisted.
LOL. Yup. Heard that the price of .223 ammo has gone up a lot.
I thought the exact same thing when I read this. No wonder the leftists love these guys -- self-esteem is just another entitlement.
I would side with them over an oversexed goon and a whore. But frankly, I wouldn't piss on ANY of them if they were on fire.
How do you do this to your sister? Coming to a neighborhood near you?
Dispatch them to hell.
Which is the reason I asked my ex the other day if he had any reloads to spare.
What? In any case, in India it tends to have more to do with someone dating outside their caste. Then there are the 5000 or so killed (usually doused in cooking oil and set on fire) because their dowries aren't big enough.
That was outlawed by the BRITISH. Another example of how the dirty colonialists imposed their values upon a native peoples.
I like your 2Cents.
"I would side with them over an oversexed goon and a whore."
Wait a minute. Sister and boyfriend have sex. Brothers warn them, they don't break up so brothers beat and strangle them to death. You approve of that?
Yay Religion Of Peace!!
And yet they do nothing...the "honor killings" go on.
You have a severely twisted sense of justice. You see unsanctioned sex as worse than pre-meditated murder? What's your punishment when you catch your kid whacking off in the barn, amputation of his right hand?
The "boyfriend" and sister were not high school kids nuzzling in the back seat of Dad's Rambler. The boyfriend was a bully, a crook, probably a murderer, and a thief. The sister had dumped her husband and was screwing this thug right in the next room. The Bonga Bros had told their sister about the repercussions of her relationship with this goon, but she snuck him in like some kind of schoolgirl sneaking cigarettes.
No, I don't "approve" of this. But I can't have a whole lot of pity for Sis and Goonga Din either.
Are you saying that adultery and criminal mayhem are okay?
--- Typical Leftist Multi-Culti Diversity Moonbat Freak
Anyone who kills a relative especially a sister has no honor. The title should be "Muslims have no honor to family".
When civilization was invented, somehow this culture was left out.
I read the headline which did not mention anyone's religion, and I immediately knew what the religion was.
Is there anyone left who doesn't think that the practicioners of the most intolerant, violent, vicious ideology in the world should be expelled?
It was a crude, gruesome death: the pair were battered with a brick and strangled with an old rope. But the killers expressed not an ounce of remorse. "We feel no shame. They had been warned,"
I suppose, you think, all marriages should be arranged?
And I don't see this as "justice." I see it as an artifact of tribal customs, something this woman and her lowlife "lover" knew well. They knew what they were risking -- they had been TOLD what would happen if the affair continued.
And Lothario was not exactly a choir boy. He was nothing but a tinhorn crook. I see this as two brothers from a primitive tribal village doing what the rest of the villagers didn't have the stomach for.
It's savage, brutal, and about as civilized as a stone axe. What it is NOT is "justice," nor did I ever claim it was. I don't care if they hang Bonga One and Two from the highest banyan in Punjab.
HAHAHAHA! This just keeps getting crazier ...
Dude, judge not cigarette smokers lest you be judged. Unbelievable. Do you have sisters? I hope you dont't have daughters.
Stranger than fiction.
Same case, different spin.
How multicultural of you.
Of course not, but murder isn't the answer, at least not here. Seems to be the tradition over there.
No. But if I did, I would hope I would not sit by and let them be used by some gutter trash. I owe my family more than that. So would she.
I hope you dont't have daughters.
I'm suprrised she left her husband, and that he didn't leave her or he kill her first. (No offense if the husband is a good guy...) We have no idea what that woman's marriage was like.
I DO NOT condone adultery in any circumstances, but the oppression women live in in those villages is often unbearable.
