'We feel no shame' - the brothers who killed their sister for honour

Shackled together at the wrist, the two brothers awaited their fate at the lonely jail in Donga Bonga, a cotton-farming backwater near Pakistan's sealed border with India.
They were poor men, barefoot farm labourers with pinched cheeks and calloused hands. But when they spoke, their bloodshot eyes flashed with cold steel.
Four days earlier Muhammad Aslam, 35, and Maqbool Ahmed, 40, had killed their younger sister and her lover. It was a crude, gruesome death: the pair were battered with a brick and strangled with an old rope. But the killers expressed not an ounce of remorse.
"We feel no shame. They had been warned," said Aslam, a slightly built father of eight. "We did it for honour," said Ahmed defiantly. "In our society a man without honour is nothing."
A man's pride exacts a high price in hidebound rural Pakistan. Almost every day a woman is beaten, clubbed or shot to death for what is euphemistically termed "adultery" - sex outside marriage. In most cases the killer is a father, brother or uncle.
"There's an increased brutalisation of society," said Kamila Hyat of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, which recorded about 300 so-called honour killings in 2006 - about the same number as the previous year.

It's hard to feel any pity for either of these parties, but if I was forced to side with one, it would be the Donga Bonga Brothers.
This isn't peculiarly Islamic, though. It's tribal crap that predates Islam. The same thing goes on in India among the Hindus in the backwaters. And there are cases of Middle Eastern Christians doing it as well. Of course, Islam does nothing to ameliorate it.
We're gonna' go through a lot of ammo before this thing is over...

Their religious insanity aside, this is true. But that religious insanity trumped their honor, big-time!
The honorable thing to do would be to force them to kill each other in honor of their cult. Admission $1(US). :-)
In the context of this barbaric primitive society, it was actually very forward-thinking of them to issue a warning, and then only do the killings after the warning was ignored, and to kill the man too. Warnings are rarely issued, especially in cases where the relationship has gone as far as sex. Plenty of women/girls have been killed just for talking to a man/boy, and usually the man/boy isn't killed. And then there was the guy who killed his 2 or 3 young daughters last year, because he was afraid they MIGHT someday dishonor his family.
Hope these guys are enjoying their "honor", while shackled together at the wrist in a jail in Donga Bonga, awaiting trial in front of a judge who's likely to be unsympathetic.

In a society that elicits death for sex outside of marriage, I'd say this was pretty brazen, especially after being warned.
I wonder how much she considered Shah her lover. I think it sounds like he selected her as his lover. Any way you slice it. Its all just wrong and twisted.
