Song Long and Thanks for All the Amenities

The Washington Post has attempted to go after a slice of the blogging pie. This seems only fair. The blogsphere has seemingly spent the last five or so years producing the closest thing out there to fair and accurate reporting of the news. Unfortunately, the Washington Post seems to have used The Huffington Post as their model. If William M. Arkin’s Early Warning Blog indicates their intended direction, they won’t be telling us anything that hasn’t already shown up writ large in the bulk of their “reporting”.

Mr. Arkin seems to think our troops should be thankful that all the folks back home haven’t treated them like piles of excrement. He seems to believe our bravest and best getting shot at in Najaf, have tried the patience of all those poor, suffering Americans sitting at home in the safety of their houses.

Like a good journalist, Mr. Arkin says. “I'm all for everyone expressing their opinion, even those who wear the uniform of the United States Army.”

There’s a reason I’m late blogging this affront to common decency. I initially threw the article down in disgust right here. I hadn’t even read the parts of it that Mr. Arkin deserves condign humiliation for. His brilliance continues to shine through.

“But I also hope that military commanders took the soldiers aside after the story and explained to them why it wasn't for them to disapprove of the American people. Through every Abu Ghraib and Haditha, through every rape and murder, the American public has indulged those in uniform, accepting that the incidents were the product of bad apples or even of some administration or command order.”

And I also think Mr. Arkin sat around getting stoned and watching Full-Metal Jacket on his DVD Player, while he ate six bags of pistachios to take care of the doobage munchies. He seems to be implying that everyone who makes it through AIT at Benning stands perched in the door of a UH-1, with a .50 Cal screaming “Git Some!”, while they gun down peasants in the rice paddy. He actually hadn’t triggered a homeland security barf alert yet. That would be this paragraph here.

“So, we pay the soldiers a decent wage, take care of their families, provide them with housing and medical care and vast social support systems and ship obscene amenities into the war zone for them, we support them in every possible way…”

And then he offers a show-stopper. He just has to clog the toilet with his unique thought and insight.

“But it is the United States, and the recent NBC report is just an ugly reminder of the price we pay for a mercenary - oops sorry, volunteer - force that thinks it is doing the dirty work.”

Arkin received enough response to this to feel the need to dig deeper. He had the audacity to title his next bowel movement “The Arrogant and Intolerant Speak Out”

“I was dead wrong in using the word mercenary to describe the American soldier today.

These men and women are not fighting for money with little regard for the nation. The situation might be much worse than that: Evidently, far too many in uniform believe that they are the one true nation. They hide behind the constitution and the flag and then spew an anti-Democrat, anti-liberal, anti-journalism, anti-dissent, and anti-citizen message that reflects a certain contempt for the American people.”

OK, Bill. You continue deluding yourself. I don’t even care enough about you anymore to snark. I hope the WaPo pays you well. I enjoy watching elitist, liberal pigs blow their rakeoff.

The WaPo reaches a new low. I guess you can't REALLY be anti-war until you get to be disgustingly anti-soldier.
