Down by the river,
Down by the banks of the river Charles,
That's where you'll find me,
Along with lovers, muggers, and thieves
(Oh, but they're cool people).
Because I love that dirty water.
Oh, Boston, you're my home.

--The Standells (who were from Los Angeles, not Boston), 1966

But at least half the citizens I met seemed pretty bright.

Happy that you posted your thoughts about people from Boston. I had an aunt (mom's brother married a gal from Boston) that was certifiably insane. I worked with a guy from Boston and he was a nut case. Didn't know if it was the beans, water or whatever. Hopefully those 2 people just gave me a wrong impression of the people in Boston as a whole.

"Turner Broadcasting hired some guerilla marketers to attach magnetic boxes with the lighted image of one of the characters on several locations around the city of Boston..."

Turner Broadcasting entered a conspiracy to install illegal advertising in public places. Nail them to the wall for being ballsy enough to think they could get away with it.

Wonder what would happen in Tom's Plumbing Fixtures annonymously left assorted pipes at the Logan Airport terminals in hopes to secure a future contract.

The book Publicity Stunt documents many stupid ideas done to get the public talking and press (including phony missing persons for actresses in travelling shows).

Nail Turner Broadcasting for this publicity stunt gone wrong.

Is Boston that stupid?

Uh, witness who they elect. "Stupid" is a pretty tame description....

The basement of Tufts is one of the hot places to advertise cable shows these days.

It's illegal to post something in public places? Lots of lawbreakers out there, I see stuff stapled to telephone poles all the time.

Hey I resent that. Only 97% of us are insane.

The other thread on this subject has become a cartoon fan site thingy, and this one seems to have degenerated into Boston bashing. I guess nobody writing these comments was there today, was held up for hours, had heard about the London raids only hours earlier. Can you imagine the feelings of the poor commuter who saw the brown paper parcel dangling from the overpass, or the schlub who found the cylinder in that popular student hangout in the Tuft's basement?

Re Boston: Ward Churchill called all the people in the WTC towers, "Little Eichmanns" as if they kinda, sorta got what they deserved. Those hapless Bostonians, well, they root for the Red Sox, and elect Kerry and Kennedy. So what if they got mugged by Ted Turner? So what if an entire city was upended by this snarky ad hoax? The movie's coming out on the 23rd...I'm so there!

DU hasn't cornered the market on clueless idiots.

Boston has its faults, but this was not one of them; call it dumber than dumb for Turner broadcasting to leave untended boxes lying around the streets of America's cities after 9/11.

To me the cops look ridiculous posturing about their great arrest. If they had been smarter and shown one of those things to a TV camera first thing this morning, someone could have told them what it was. Instead they blew it up and caused a panic everywhere. They don't need to perpetrate the charade on the marketeer and I hope the public laughs at them until they realize it. Let's see if CNN stands up for their contractor or tries to get off with their lame apology.

I lived in Shrewsbury which was predominantly Republican then. The western half of Massachusetts, roughly speaking about 40 percent of the state population, leans Republican. When Dukakis ran for president 40 percent still voted for GHW Bush.

Thanks. I saw that earlier, but it was a mad dash around here during all of this...the phone, the TV, the doorbell.

When I've really thought about who did this and why they did this, I can only think of one word. Cruel. It was just such a cruel thing to do to innocent people going about their business. That's the same thing I thought about the bakery bombing in Israel on Monday.

For a movie promotion. Here is exactly what is wrong with America.

The Boston voter base consists of:

Government-addicted welfare bums, mentally unstable leftover commie professors, Satanists, women with in-your-face tattoos, fourth-generation drunks, the "FDR is God" elderly, power-crazed media has-beens, paint-flinging animal rights losers, abortion enthusiasts (Catholics of course), retards still driving around with Al Gore bumper stickers, retro-hippie wannabees, gold-chained union thugs, sicko pornographers, the Jimmy Carter fan club (all three members), intellectuals who decided to act as their own lawyer in the divorce proceedings and lost everything, aging KGB agents now living in this country, Muslim jihadists who slipped in through Montreal, alien abductees (not to be confused with illegal aliens), and dead and buried voters from Joe Kennedy's era - - these make up the Boston voting elite. Oh, yeah, don’t forget the 10,000 graduates of Harvard Law School, the scariest group of all.

"later considered the boxes dangerous."

Real "later"...
Someone on Fox noted that the displays have been up for 2 weeks...
Someone notices today and everyone decided to freak out..

Seems to me, 2 weeks ago should have been the time to freak...

"I can only think of one word. Cruel."

Cruel? They were just trying to promote their show. The interference was the result of overreaction on the part of the LEOs, not the promotion of what appears to be a rather strange show.

No reasonable person could have foreseen a freaking "light bright" making the cops go on red alert.

And if it had turned out to not be a joke or cartoon or whatever it/they was/were.....what then? What would all the laughing ones have to say then? 9/11-01 changed forever how such things must be viewed, unless of course, you don't give a rip. The "leaders" from Boston certainly fall into that catagory, maybe a whole lot of regulars like us feel that way too. Sends chills up my spine. Yes, I have one.
