Isaac Hayes Puts South Park and Chef Behind Him

Even though the outcry has been loud, Isaac Hayes will not be returning to "South Park." Hayes tells the New York Post's Billy Heller that there will be no reunion and no return to the character of Chef on the cult hit tv show.

Hayes admits that even though the show spoofed Scientology in an episode, it's not the reason for his departure. No, the Oscar- and Grammy-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Famer said he felt like he got the shaft.

Hayes tells the Post that the big reason he left the show last year was, "They didn't pay me enough." And, "They weren't that nice."

Hayes, who is still recovering from a stroke and is currently in physical therapy will be ready to go onstage Saturday at the B.B. King Blues Club on West 42nd Street. "I got my voice," the 'Black Moses' said. "That still works.

And in the last couple seasons before he quit he had really been putting in the hours on the show. What did he have, maybe 15 minutes of screen time in it in the past few seasons?

Seriously. He was barely on. I was thinking he was in episodes just because they felt sorry for him and wanted to give him a job.

Well after they had his character eaten by a bear and mountain lion, his face ripped off, and turned him into a darth vader child molester, do you really think he would return to play that role?

Yeah no kidding... voice work on animated things is known to be GOLDEN (esp with the recent CGI hits) and for the fact that they are so easy and low maintenance.

South Park isn't one of the well paying gigs because its on Comedy Central. But typically voice roles like Family Guy, Simpsons or King of the Hill really do make you nice money and require virtually no reharsal and absolutely no time wasted in make-up.

South Park spoofed Scientology years ago as well so why didn't he quit then if that was the reason. Considering the literally heinous things they've said about nearly every organized religion in America, it would be hyocritical of him to help trash everybody else and then quit when his ox got gored. The episode they did on Scientology was meant to be pretty mean but so was the episode they did on Mormons, Catholic priests and I'm sure evangelics aren't thrilled with Jesus having a public access talk show and being ignored by everybody.

He's making so much more in residuals that he can quit the show for whatever reasons. But, the lack of pay is something I don't believe.

Actually, some of us "Evangelicals" find that a shockingly accurate portrayal of Jesus' role in most Americans' lives.

IIRC, some people made that same point re John Lennon's notorious "more popular than Jesus" comment.

I'm sure evangelics aren't thrilled with Jesus having a public access talk show and being ignored by everybody.

This evangelical thinks it's hilarious (in a tragic way) - very much a statement on the state of Christianity in this country.
