On Guns, Bloomberg Issues Threat to Capitol Hill Lawmakers
NY Sun ^ | January 24, 2007 | RUSSELL BERMAN

WASHINGTON — Taking his fight against illegal guns to Capitol Hill, Mayor Bloomberg has a warning for members of the new Congress: Vote for a measure backed by the gun lobby, and he'll remember in 2008.

Mr. Bloomberg issued his threat yesterday as he convened a national summit of more than 50 fellow mayors from both major parties, all members of the coalition he cofounded to combat illegal guns. The day-long session, which included leaders from Los Angeles, Chicago, and Newark, centered on ways to advance federal legislation to help police track illegal gun sales, and to oppose measures that restrict law enforcement.

The mayors zeroed in on a measure known as the Tiahrt Amendment, named after its chief sponsor, Rep. Todd Tiahrt, a Republican of Kansas. The provision would prevent the police from using some gun sales records from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Versions of the amendment have passed Congress for the last four years after being attached to larger Department of Justice appropriations bills.

With the backing of the National Rifle Association, some lawmakers have pushed for making the restrictions permanent, a proposal the coalition yesterday vowed to oppose.

"This is a law that restricts information that is there and that any rational person would want in the hands of any rational person in this country," Mr. Bloomberg said.

Because the amendment is often attached to much larger bills, members may defend their approval of it as a compromise vote aimed at passing "the good things" in the legislation, Mr. Bloomberg said. But he'll be watching. Pledging to talk to every lawmaker he could, the mayor said he would tell them that if they vote for the Tiahrt Amendment, they...

--snip--

Asked about the promotion later, Mr. Bloomberg said the organizers were "sick people."

Bloomberg is a truly, egomaniacally, sick puppy. Calling Dr. Freud?!

At some point here the Virginia Attorney General is going to figure out if he needs to ask New York to extradite Bloomberg to stand trial for violating Virginia's gunlaws.

I can't wait till this yammy self righteous know it all gets out of office. But then, what do we have to take his place. OH! Christine Quinn--a fine lesbian colleen.
Actually Christine can finesse her ambition far better than her predecessor Gifford Miller.

He's the single most monumentally arrogant SOB I've ever met, and I've spent nearly my entire career working for billionaires where hubris is commonplace. He truly believes that there is no issue of American life that would not be made better by him being the one designated to make the decisions.

What do you want for lunch? Ask Mike... what shirt should you wear today? ...ask Mike.... Should I major in English or History? Ask Mike.

I'm sure Congress is now shaking in their boots.

Who do they dare piss off? Bloomberg or 4 million members of the NRA?

RINO-Rudy II (Gloomberg) is having a gun-grabbing FIT, isn't he?

THIS is what we can expect on a national scale IF the Republican powers-that-be are STUPID enough to select a RINO like rudy to run for President.

A northeast corridor, inner-city liberal with an (R) after his name is just as bad (actually WORSE, with their traitorous, disloyal proclivities) as a (D).

Just say NO to any and all RINOs.

Bugger off, Bloomie ... I don't live in your town, I don't want to live in your town, I don't "heart" your town, and I don't want my town to look like yours. Keep your socialist, tyrannical nonsense to yourself.

In Norway in WWII the first thing the Germans did was go to all the City Halls and get the gun registrations, and then took them - along with any young men that gave tehm a sideways glance.

My Dad's cousin in Norway came from a family of hunters/shooters. But alas, now he only has one old decrepit single shot shotgun. ;)

Actually, Bloomberg used to be a lifelong "D". Untill he decided to run for Mayor. He realized that he would have to run in the primaries against some more well known and more powerful fellow Dems. So he went to the local Republican Party (run by more RINOs) and offered them a deal: Let him run on the Republican ticket and he would help fianance other Republican races using the money out of his own pocket. The Reps agreed. Bloomberg changed his political affiliation (but not his liberal-left political ideas), ran as a Republican, and won. But he reneged on his part of the bargain in fianancing other republican races.
