Judge Rips Into Attorney for TV Remarks (remnant of Plamegate)

An attorney for former ambassador Joseph Wilson, whose wife, Valerie Plame, is at the center of the Plamegate scandal in Washington, was raked over the coals by a judge Thursday for remarks she made the day before on MSNBC's Hardball. During an interview on the program, Melanie Sloan said that former administration official Scooter Libby could still be convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice even though he may not have been the first person to reveal that Plame was a CIA agent. In a stinging rebuke from the bench, U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton said that he "would not tolerate this case being tried in the media." He added that Sloan's remarks "could cause potential members of the jury pool to engender negative attitudes about the defendant." Sloan's comment, he added, "Is not only shocking but borders on unethical conduct."

It's strange that I got such political news from IMDB... But I didn't see anything about this in other MSM outlets...

Joseph "The Weasel" Wilson is now shaking in his slippers about being called to the stand by Libby's lawyers.

He is terrified he will be ripped apart on the stand and forced to admit multiple lies.

He is screaming at his lawyers to squelch being called as a witness by Libby's attorneys.

There is no "out" for him if he is one the stand. Either he can lie some more (and risk perjury himself), or admit multiple lies leading up to this case, and be disgraced.

It couldn't happen to a more deserving worm.

It annoys me that nothing happens to the attorney other than a lecture.

Guess Joe only wanted to "speak truth to power" from the cozy confines of the NY Times Op-Ed page.

Of course the judge is outraged. This boob admitted that "it doesn't matter" if Scooter Libby was NOT the first one to leak Plame's name to the press.

The partisan witchhunt will continue.

Interesting that this article pretends at the beginning that Joe Wilson is NOT at the center of this whole charade and that he is merely Valerie Plame's husband.

Wilson is trying to appear before the court and stay out of the trial, while at the same time using his attorney to try Libby in the press. Libby's lawyer is a firebrand, I won't be surprised if he tries to bring this behavior by Wilson's lawyer into the trial.

As for Wilson and his lawyer, the bottom line is these leftists are horribly immoral and unethical people. Wilson and Plame know they caused this whole thing via Wilson's repeated public lies, they know Libby is not central to anything that went on, yet they will try to prejudice his trial to suit their political agenda. These are very evil people. Real creeps.

I hope Valerie's exhibitionist magazine photos in her pajamas come into this trial. Intelligence analyst? that woman is some kind of sicko.

He WILL lie on the stand, be convicted and drag out the appeal process long enough for newly elected President Hillary Rodham to pardon him.

I wish it were so.

Sloan's comment, he added, "Is not only shocking but borders on unethical conduct."

I call b.s. I'm glad the "judge" is finally speaking up about something in this case, but these are still WEASEL words..... It does not merely "border on unethical conduct" to go on TV and try to taint the jury pool, it IS unethical conduct, period. Ms. Sloan, of course, is a left-wing hack, a stooge of John Conyers and a vicious partisan. Gee, and I thought "C.R.E.W." (her group) was founded to promote ethics in public life??? The judge should kick her ugly butt right out of the case and get lyin' Joe Wilson right up on that witness stand, under oath, to be grilled to charcoal......

Reggie needs to grow some stones.

This case should have been thrown out the minute the judge saw that Fitz was prosecuting the "low-lying fruit" of a "process crime" that allegedly occurred during an investigation that should have been completed in the hour (or the time it takes to make three or four phone calls) that it would have taken to discover that Plame and her status were not covered under the relevant espionage act.

This whole thing is about as disgraceful and shameless as the Nifon/Duke case.

Well said, the Libby case has been a travesty of "justice" from the start, and this judge needs to stand up for the real nature of justice and tear the case to pieces. Fitzy and his team should be charged with prosecutorial misconduct, the case should be thrown out, etc. OTOH, it could be very useful to see lyin' Joe grilled on the stand, along with all the other stuff Libby's attorneys should be able to introduce, so maybe it will be worthwhile to see the case go forward to the end....

It is true that CREW's Executive Director, Melanie Sloan, has also worked for such illustrious, and ultra-partisan Democrats as John Conyers (between 1995 and 1998 she served as his Minority Counsel for the House Judiciary Committee) and Charles Schumer (in 1994, she served as Counsel for the Crime Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, led by him). She has also worked for Joe Biden, and also represented Joe Wilson. It is also true that Ms. Sloan guest blogs over at Al Franken's site and has appeared on Keith Olbermann's show, where she represented Mr. Wilson and Ms. Plame. --------------- http://www.gopprogress.com/story/2006/9/29/135121/148 via 29 posted on 10/11/2006 12:00:31 PM PDT by radar101

Who's CREW?

CREW assisted former Rep. Chris Bell (D-Texas) in drafting a complaint against Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) that resulted in the majority leader’s admonishment by the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct.
Last May, CREW wrote to Attorney General John Ashcroft requesting an investigation into whether former Rep. (now Sen.) John Thune (R-S.D.) violated a federal criminal statute prohibiting members of Congress from lobbying their former colleagues for one year after they leave Congress.------Who is CREW?The Hill ^ | March 30, 2005 | The Editors

Speaking of Biden:

NOVEMBER late - early DECEMBER 2003 : (JOE BIDEN MEETS WITH FRENCH LEADER CHIRAC) To : Howlin : Is he saying that Joe Biden is going around the world talking to world leaders about getting Bush out of office? Joe Biden had a private meeting with Chriac back in late Nov, early Dec. I made some posts about it then. ---- Posted by Shermy to Howlin On News/Activism 09/24/2004 11:39:58 AM PDT · 580 of 601

From December.

In retrospect, I'm sure that the state Bar Association recommended the attorney have her license to practice law suspended.
