WASHINGTON - Imagine the scene next month: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger brings his California message of fighting global warming to the U.S. Senate, helping launch Sen. Barbara Boxer's campaign for national controls on greenhouse gas emissions.
Expect the media-savvy governor to extol California-style bipartisanship -- in contrast to Washington-style gridlock -- as the key to achieving results.
Schwarzenegger and Boxer, who will chair the Environment Committee, have touted the state's emissions controls as a model for national action.
Then, the TV lights will go dark and the legislative grind begins.
Even as public consciousness grows about the threat of climate change, the new Democratic majority in Congress will encounter many obstacles to strong emissions controls: industry resistance, budget constraints, disagreements among party leaders and the problem's daunting complexity and global scope.

She plans weeks of hearings, calling state officials, environmentalists and industry leaders, scientists and religious groups, maybe even former Vice President Al Gore and British Prime Minister Tony Blair. ...

Bipartisan support
And Boxer is not a liberal lone wolf on this issue. Sen. John McCain, the Arizona Republican gearing up for another presidential run, has been outspoken on the need for emissions controls, and pushed a modest bill that failed two years ago.
Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, recently wrote a scathing letter with Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., to executives at Exxon Mobil, the world's largest oil company, urging them to stop funding their ``climate change denial campaign.''
Last year, as Boxer noted, 53 senators voted for an amendment that stated, in principle, that mandatory action was necessary on emissions controls. The provision did not become law.

But opposition to extensive emissions controls is still fierce from many energy companies, utilities and the auto industry. Forty states have coal-fired power plants,

In effect saying you have no free speech. If you don't toe the environmental line we'll punish you. So much for the first amendment.
If the terrorists did set off a nuke somewhere in the US

Way past time US Democrats renamed their party. Their "vision" for the US is Europe. IF they had any intellectual honesty at all they would rename themselves the Democrat Socialists Party

Get ready -- the stream of Constitution-busting liberal/socialist crap that is coming our way is going to be beyond sickening. Thanks to our fine American voters.
So, as far as Snowe and Rockefeller are concerned, censorship is ok? What happened to the 1st Amendment?
But what about the concern of cow emissions?

"A dairy cow annually emits almost 20 pounds (9 kilograms) of smog-forming gases known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs)more than a car or light truck,"
I think the dems will mind their manners until '08 in hopes of controlling both houses and the Presidency. Then all hell will break loose.
Isn't there any way to stop yenta emissions?
Yep, but they are in power now and you can bet they will get put a bill on Bush's desk and he will sign it.
As long as her plan controls the emissions coming from her mouth I'm for it!
