Vanity: THE GOP nominee for '08; His name is Duncan Hunter
bushfamfan | 11/24/06 | bushfamfan

I just want to have a thread to discuss House Rep. Duncan Hunter who is going to be one of our GOP nominees. Seems as if a lot of people on FR are complaining about our choices for 2008 when this great man is going to be in the race as well. I just think he needs to get some coverage and wanted to start this thread.

He is the man conservatives should get behind and I think he deserves his own thread to remind us that we do have a great candidate this time if we'd only realize it.

Apparently we didn't learn too well because 16 years later we nominated the most conservative Republican on the planet and won 3 landslide elections.

Hillary isn't middle America. Time magazine doesn't carry much weight down here.

As for the argument that Duncan Hunter is not known now:

Remember this headline: Jimmy who?

Who would have thought in 1975 that disaster in waiting would ever be president.

There are 200 House Republicans, no doubt there are attractive, capable conservatives among them. The fact is, however, that it hasn't been since 1880 that a House Member was elected President, James Garfield.

At the time of his nomination, Garfield was Republican floor leader in the House, and was Senate-Elect. Garfield was also a Civil War General. He had been nationally known for nearly 20 years.

I don't think (maybe someone can look it up) that any House Member has been nominated (and lost) for President since Garfield.

Duncan Hunter is a fine House Member, but he does not have the qualifications needed to gain the Republican nomination, and if nominated to win.

-Their ticket is Hillary/Obama.-

Historically that would be a long shot to win. Has any two-senator ticket EVER won the WH? For that matter, a ticket where both sens. had less than 2 terms of experience?

Hitlery would choose a Gov. like Richardson or Vilsack.

--I believe the "naysayers" regarding Hunter on FR are those that love gloablism. --

True. Hunter is against CAFTA and against globalism in general. Perhaps that may appeal to a lot of Midwest "Reagan Democrats".

It's too early to write anyone off. Rudy & McCain may be Trojan horses who could split the party (but a Prez. Hitlery would wreck far more than a party).

Newt has too much baggage to run, but can be a great behind-the-scenes strategist. Brownback is too little known and not strong on illegal immigration.

I'd like Sanford to run but if he doesn't, Hunter is a better true Conservative than the rest of the field.

In summary, the Enemedia will ty to destroy any GOP candidate. We might as well give Hunter serious consideration, particularly if a major foreign policy crisis arises (and that is quite likely).

Hunter, unfortunately, doesn't have a pretty face like Obama, or money like Clinton.

Repeat after me:

Newt is Toast. Newt Is Toast. Newt Is Toast.

And he did it to himself. The Moral issue will not quit. And he flunked. We need to seriously get behind a candidate without the moral peccadillos that will implode the party base. This election just made it very clear. The base needs a clean candidate not beholden to foreign special interests and not given to sexual perversion or marital infidelity. Period.

This should not be so hard to adhere to. Duncan Hunter does. Time for you to step up as a real conservative, and come over to Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo.

Yep.

Hunter is the only one of the current candidates (or expected candidates) who makes Mike Huckabee look pragmatic.

If embrasing one of these two yo-yos as a presidential candidate is required for me to be a 'real conservative', I'd rather be a RINO.

Somebody suggested Haley Barbour

I know I've tossed his name around here frequently...as well as that of Lynn Cheney. She's got more cred than Hillary, that's for sure.

I think you are wrong about Newt on that score.

He married the woman. The end.

Regardless it appears he is going on a rebuilding effort. We, including you, would all be foolish to not support educating the public.

As it stands now, Hitlary has kept quiet for six years. She is cultivating her wall street connections and perfect the use of third parties to win elections.

They know how to dress like DINOS.

Saying Newt is akin to der slickmeister does not help republicans rebuild.
