America's Future is Red, Europe's is Green
Brussels Journal ^ | 11-17-2006 | Paul Belien

. . . it may be too late for that. The “paleocons” do not want to fight for any country but America, “neocons” have come to resent Europe for failing to stand with them in Iraq, and “blue” Liberals (the only Americans most leading Europeans feel affinity with) lack the guts to fight for anything at all, including their own hedonistic values. We can deplore this as much as we want, but, again, this is the situation we are stuck with. I doubt whether the mid-term elections showed that neoconservatism is dead. I think they announced the death of the Atlantic Alliance. The bell tolled for Europe – which makes it ironic that so many Europeans rejoiced in the results. Bacharan is sounding the alarm because she realizes America is leaving Europe. Edward Lucas does the same in Friday’s Daily Telegraph. He says that the old dictum which described the purpose of the Atlantic Alliance – “to keep the Americans in, the Germans down, and the Russians out” – is now wrong on all three fronts, because “The Russians are coming, the Germans rising, and the Americans leaving. Each country seeks the best deal it can, to the detriment of its neighbours. Collective security is as badly needed as it was during the Cold War. But Nato can no longer provide it.”

Lucas’ article focuses on the old East-West relations, between Russia on the one hand, America and Western Europe on the other. There is, however, more at stake today. Who cares about “coming” Russians and “rising” Germans? Both peoples have committed demographic suicide. It are the Muslims who are coming and rising. . . . While America’s future will still most likely be “red,” Europe’s will be “green” – the colour of Islam.

Screw Europe. The Brits are getting rid of Tony Blair. Their next leader won't have the cojones to stand up against Islamofascism.

I refuse to aid Europe with my blood and treasure when the next war comes. I refuse to let my children do it as well.

My bad... The sad part is that its probably true unless our politicians change the course. I just don't see it happening.

I watched my daughter ship out to rescue Kuwait, my grandson just turned 14. I won't let him get as "gung ho" as I raised his mother to be.
We will have a rough time saving our nation, Europe can go to Hell, or learn to fight.

There are plenty of conservative Europeans, they simply don't have a voice. Just as an example, France has I think 4 television stations, none are completely private. Not too many people have cable in France. The media is contolled too an extreme. Yet, I have had several EU friends tell me they are concerned with the Muslims and are glad we are fighting in Iraq.

Keep in mind the world is fluid and so are the people who inhabit the old blue marble.

I currently work for a firm that is enjoying a resurgence specifically because we have some excellent and exceptionally talentes Latino players.

"and are glad we are fighting in Iraq."

That's the problem - they're glad WE'RE doing the fighting and bleeding.

I share every drop of bitterness which we are now draining from the cup called Iraq.

But we ought not to let our bitterness becloud our judgment. Much of our bitterness should be directed against ourselves. The Europeans did not ask us to fight the war in Iraq. As a matter of fact, many of them begged us not to do so. In the event, they were right and we were wrong. I was certainly wrong.

Now the European alliance is virtually shattered. America is split in Twain and the left is on the march, having taken over the legislative branch of our government trading mostly on the dismay about our situation in Iraq. Our President has become a lame-duck and our general, General Abazaid, has just told Congress that we cannot increase troop level in Iraq by as few as only 20,000 troops because even that modest increase cannot be sustained! And yet we cannot get out because that would lead to catastrophic aftermath.

I suspect the sentiments on this thread are more broadly shared throughout the whole of America, that is, our own people are increasingly unwilling to fight under these circumstances. We have succeeded only in demonstrating to would-be terrorists in the Arab/ Muslim world that we cannot effectively fight an asymmetrical war of attrition in the lands we so easily can conquer. Should we expect our sons and daughters to flock to the induction stations to fight this kind of war?

Small wonder the Europeans are feeling a bit smug. All too soon they will begin feeling real fear

Hindsight is always 20/20. Let's see how the country reacts next time the terrorists strike HERE, as they most assuredly will. WE can't blame it on the U.S. Our 'allies' are whining because they're rotting from within. We should take a lesson from them. BTW, appreciate your non-PCness (Nathan Bedford Forrest, who'da thunk?). "Fustest with the mostest."
