Rape victim kills attacker. Threat to also go after daughter, 6, spurs bloody struggle:
He came to her house wearing a ski mask and carrying a shotgun.
He beat the woman, police say, and raped her.
But when the woman's attacker — an old high school friend she had spurned — threatened to rape her 6-year-old daughter, the woman went for a butcher knife.
That prompted a violent back-and-forth struggle.
She stabbed him. He stabbed her.
They fought for perhaps as long as 20 minutes, rolling around on the kitchen floor of the woman's Cherokee County home.
When it was over, 38-year-old Gerald A. Lee of Woodstock lay dead in the yard.
Police found the woman badly injured. A helicopter took her to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
Her daughter, though, was safe.

While this story indicates there was a singular reason for his animosity in this case, I cannot help but wonder if this man had committed rape before.
Either never reported or never solved.
I hope that the police match his DNA to other unsolved crimes, and circulate his picture for other women to come forward if this wasn't his first attempt at the crime of rape.
It is truly sad how many women are raped and NEVER come forward. I thank some of TV crime shows for helping to change that statistic, as they show the victim how caring the nurses and detectives can actually be toward their pain.
20 minutes is a looooong time to be in that situation. Must be one tough gal.
I hope and pray she recovers completely. Aside from that...I love a happy ending. Don't you?
If the gutless liberals (commies) were consistent, they'd want to ban knives, like they've thought of doing in places such as Jamaica and the UK.
Good on this woman for defending herself and her kid. Hopefully, she won't be prosecuted for killing the worthless rapist.
Never threaten a woman's child... they become meaner 'n grizzlys.
I wouldn't exactly call it a happy ending ... she was badly injured, both physically and mentally.
But the perp is dead.
That, at least, is a Good Thing (tm).

L&O, SVU comes to mind. It's also very helpful in that it educated women in a round-about-way how to avoid rape, how to deal with it when it happens and what to do afterwards.
