FReepers Air Force daughter cannot vote in this election! OUTRAGEOUS!
Rovember 5, 2006 | Gitmo Sailor

My daughter is in the Air Force!

I just found out that she won't be able to vote!

She is stationed in the Azores!

Why won't our government let our Military vote?

If the military vote was included we wouldn't have a second Clinton scumbering!!

We need to have some way for all our Soldier's votes to count when the Clinton 2008 War machine races into action to take over the WH again.

The military has a long history of voting against Democrats. Thus, they will have to live being disenfranchised while illegals and dead get to vote.

Have a nice day and keep voting Democrat. :)

It is outrageous. Our Marine recieved his ballot for the 2004 elections after the elections where over with. None of my sons have been able to vote while they were deployed. The state always gets the ballots out too late.

Not enough information in the above post to make anything other than a knee-jerk opinion. For instance, who told her she couldn't vote? Did they give a reason? Did she attempt to register within whatever the applicable deadline might be?

Without that information, we cannot have an informed opinion.

Why didn't your daughter fill out an application and send it to your county's registrar of voters? That's how I voted when I was in the military.

Well said, jude24. Also, the troops can now vote by email anyway. The DOD has a new system set up specifically for the purpose of making it easier for the troops overseas to vote.

I wonder if this girl wasn't registered in time. Makes all the difference.

Pentagon spokeswoman Cynthia Smith said the Defense Department has set up a secure absentee voter program that will allow military members to request and receive absentee ballots. The new program, she said, lets people vote without relying on the regular mail system.

As part of the program, many states allow military members deployed overseas to return their completed ballot via fax or the Internet. Those ballots, Smith said, will not pass through the hands of any government officials until they are received by a local election authority.

"The e-mail-to-fax operation does have risks, but we have taken every precaution to limit those risks," said Smith. She said U.S. service members have been told of the potential privacy concerns with the system, so they can make an informed choice about whether to use the program.
