What are you doing to help your local GOP candidates who may be in tight races?

I'm going to wash my hands of them.

I think the coverage of a Congressman targeting House Pages for homosexual sex is very newsworthy. I'd like to know if my representatives are trying to turn teen employees into their private harem.

Sure, but all the breathless "Do I make you horny." reporting, and people don't even have all the facts.

Typically base voters are depressed when their party suffers a serious scandal, as they have now.

I keep hearing that, but does anyone have any figures showing that? I guess what I'm getting at is all the doom and gloom forecasts seem to be so much liberal hoohah aimed at depressing our base by reporting our base is depressed.

I haven't seen any poll numbers yet. We probably won't know until election day. But Bush's DUI, and his poor reaction to the revelation, depressed his turnout in 2000. Knowing the Republican base, which is disproportionately Christian, they don't take kindly to their leaders trolling for teens.

History tells me that this will matter in a significant way. The only question is how much.

...they don't take kindly to their leaders trolling for teens.

Then "they" need to get a clue. Foley never was my leader (or a leader of the vast majority of Americans). He represented one district in Florida. He no longer represents even them.

It's stupid to extend the blame to Hastert when he probably knew far less about the problem than did several Democratic leaders.

If voters are really going to choose which party to vote for, based on concerns about Congresscritters "trolling for teens", they need to seriously ask themselves which party likely has more Representatives engaging in this kind of behavior.

I wasn't aware or didn't remember that. (Darn, such a good expression too.) I'll drop it. Thanks for the tip.

"People have to actually get out of bed and go vote."

You can absentee vote in your PJ's laying in bed.

I think the Dems can get to 240.

The strategy of saying, "they're worse", while true, does not alter the fact that in our system, you must deserve reelection (and rightly so).

This is whistling in the wind. The Republican Party is the party of values. Sexual hedonists and perverts know who to vote for already, and it isn't the Republicans. We are held to a different standards. There is no point in complaining about unfairness. It is what it is, and the Republican Party is letting whatever chance they had slip away through their own languid behavior.

After 9-11, if any "Christian" tosses the election to the liberals, they can just pitch their bibles and start reading comic books for all the good they think their doing.

Consider helping GOTV in one of the battleground states. You can get in touch with the RNC to volunteer. My home state races are probably all lost.
