West Virginia GOP senatorial candidate John Raese slapped back at Senator Robert Byrds reference to Raeses deceased father in a West Virginia public television profile which aired Thursday night.
In a transcript of the program obtained by the Raese campaign Thursday afternoon, Byrd says, (Raeses) father was my friend. I think his father would have been somewhat ashamed. His father would be supporting me today I feel if he were alive.
Raese fired back, saying, It is Senator Byrd who should be ashamed for smearing my father and my family by extension when he knows my father is deceased and cannot speak for himself. I am astounded at the disgusting arrogance of Senator Byrd in suggesting that my father would support ever him over his own son. Senator Byrd has a nasty habit of saying outrageous things and this is just another example of that arrogance, Raese said.
Raese said the contrast between his father and Senator Byrds father is a lesson to remember.
When I was a boy, my father was taking me to basketball and baseball games, and to Dairy Queen after the game, said Raese.
"By contrast, according to Senator Byrds autobiography, his father was taking him to Ku Klux Klan meetings. Years later, when I was 34, I was running for the United States Senate. Senator Byrd was, at that same age, by his own account, recruiting members to the KKK, he said.
Added Raese, I know who my father would be ashamed of, and it wouldnt be me.
West Virginia has done really well with Byrd's pork barrel money. He's got more stuff named after him there than Saddam did in Iraq.
Ping.
Too bad this Raese guy doesn't have a chance against the Grand Kleagle.
And to think all the Democrats who scream "racism" at every Republican make a hero of this Nazi bigot.
Frankly, it doesn't say much for West Virginia either that they vote for him.
THIS, Senator Dole, is one of the people you SHOULD of been supporting rather than Chafee.
That's a real sleazy thing for him to do. I thought the deceased were off limits in politics?
Hot diggity dog! Someone in WV with guts enough to face down Kleagle Byrd, who vies for the title with Sen. Ted Stevens as King of Pork.
Did the West Virginia Ku Klux Klan merge with the DEMOCRAT Party, or are they seperate organizations?
The notion that WV has done really well with Byrd's pork barrel money is a somewhat superficial notion. Very little of the money has gone into things that are self-stainable. In short "riches" have come into the state but it has created almost no real wealth. When the pork stops flowing into the state many of these Byrd funded projects will decay & die.
LOLOL! Very very good comeback.
That picture of Sheets Byrd needs to be spread as widely as possible!!!
hey, if Ronald Reagan can awaken from the dead to endorse James Webb in VA, why can't Father Raese do the same in WV?
The way I would handle this is to say that Byrd is remembering a former time in West Virginia, when everybody was a conservative Democrat. The fact is, today, more and more conservatives are realizing that there no longer is such a thing as a "conservative Democrat" in national politics, and that continuing to elect Democrats to the Congress serves the purposes of Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton, rather than the values of West Virginia.
You are correct; however, the people of WV have been duped by the 'Rats and media. Aside from Byrd, they have actually been convinced that Jay ROCKEFELLER cares about the poor and middle class.
Byrd is in his mid-80s. When the hell is WV voters going to wake up and look forward and support a candidate with fresh ideas instead of giving this racist bovine excrement who pretends to care about the Constitution another six-year term. Why don't they just rename the state after him, for crying out loud.
Byrd is senile. Not a slur, just fact.
