British business mogul Richard Branson said Thursday he would invest about $3 billion to combat global warming over the next decade. Branson, the billionaire behind the multi-platform Virgin brand, said the money would come from 100 percent of the profits generated by his transportation and airline sectors. It will then be invested in efforts to find renewable, sustainable energy sources in an effort to wean the world off of oil and coal.
Branson made the announcement on the second day of the Clinton Global Initiative, an annual conference of business, political and nonprofit leaders hosted by former President Clinton.
"Our generation has inherited an incredibly beautiful world from our parents and they from their parents," Branson said at a news conference with Clinton at his side. "We must not be the generation responsible for irreversibly damaging the environment."
Clinton praised Branson, calling him one of the most "creative" and "committed" people had ever known.
Fool, Money, Cliche.
Jackass runs one of the most fuel-thristy businesses known to exist, and wastes all sorts of fuel with his stupid attempts to set records, and now acts like he gives a daman about global warming?
CRAPOLA!
I can top that, I pledge billions to combat the boogyman.
He might as well burn his billions in an open fire, for all the good they're going to do against "global warming".
No, wait, that would mean you're not a hypocrite.
Look at me!!! Look at me!!!
When I am not giving money to fight global warming, you can find me running a luxury fuel-sucking airline that offers all sorts of un-necessary pollution increasing perks to its passengers or else emitting gas and fumes directly into the atmosphere in my hot-air balloons (flown simply for the fun of it).
I have a fleet of cars and trucks for in my household, and heat and cool and water the grass for several gigantic and often empty mansions all year round.
But I love the enviornment.
Perhaps open a "Kumbaya Center for Environmental Understanding", and ask for funding?
Press releases are cheap.
Not only should he ground his fleet of jets, he should quit making Cds and DVDs also. They are made of plastic derived from evil oil afterall.
Hey, I respect this guy. At least he puts HIS money where his mouth is.
This entire story was one of the funniest tales of the year. His airline isn't growing at this point...having peaked out. Alot of Brits are unhappy with service within the airline. It is cheap...without argument. My bet is that he does this for 3 years and quietly stops the payments. You will quietly forget the whole thing by that point and not blame the idiot.
Waste? It's going to get spent buying pols and attempting to pass legislation. This is trouble.
President Clinton can make women remove their panties and men remove their wallets.
Shows you the persuasion of he one and only..
Our old friend...Al Gore.
He's going to use the money to get a little warmer
with Hillary....payback to Bill....ROTFLMAO..Jake
The problem with many of these organizations is that they spend most of their energy and budget in "advocacy" which ultimaztely boils down to electing more socialists to office.
.....why doesn't he ground his fleet of Virgin Airlines jets?
They are gross polluters.
Since Global Warming is nothing more than a way to tax what could not be taxed before, Branson could pay the tax himself.
