Strategic Depth: The Fallout of the Lebanon War

Posted on 08/16/2006 12:48:35 PM PDT by dervish

After the year of the Katyushas, raining first from Gaza on Israeli cities in the South, and then from Lebanon in the North all the way down to Haifa, can anyone doubt the need for Israeli land mass which would have to include the West Bank?

Is there still a question that the Olmert Disengagement Plan is dead, if not also Kadima and Olmert as a political leader?

The lessons the Arabs/Persians have learned here is that the rocket attacks work.

True, longer range missiles are still a threat even with Greater Israel, but those threats are less available to terrorists and are susceptible to interception from missile defenses. It was the primitive, widely available Katyushas with their limited range and accuracy that brought a huge swathe of Israel to a standstill.

Hezbollah may have given Israel its biggest victory yet -- a definitive reason to keep its land.

Israel should have cleaned Southern Lebanon out along with Gaza and claimed now a part of Israel. Would be a sound warning to the West Bank, they might be next.

Despite the mindless rants of the Muslims that they won this conflict, anyone with any sense knows that this was an Israeli victory.
True, Israeli citizens were killed, buildings were destroyed, people evacuated, and tanks were destroyed, but Hezbollah managed to accomplish one thing that no else could: it untied the Israeli population.
And it should have convinced even the most dovish peacenik that peace with the Arabs is a chimera.

The next year will be Israel's or Iran's last. Hopefully Iran's.

Those rockets will have Iranian nukes on them in '07, they will be guided and some will get through.... UNLESS ISRAEL CRUSHES IRAN N O W!!!
