President George W. Bush isn't doing enough at home and abroad to protect citizens from terrorist attacks because funding is falling short and U.S. troops are over-extended, Arkansas Democratic Senator Mark Pryor said.
"My fellow Democrats and I believe our government must do more to protect Americans at home and around the world," Pryor, 43, said in the weekly Democratic radio address Saturday. "Five years after 9/11, our country is not as safe as it needs to be, or should be. Americans deserve real security, not just leaders who talk tough but fail to deliver."
Pryor's comments came two days after British intelligence broke up an alleged terrorist plot to blow up airliners over the Atlantic Ocean and arrested 24 people. The U.S. Homeland Security Department responded by raising the terror alert level and banning liquids, which were intended for use in a planned attack, from carry-on bags on commercial airliners.
"Our military, including our National Guard, has been stretched to the breaking point," Pryor said . "Returning Guard units no longer have adequate equipment to train for their next mission. Our first-responders lack critical resources. Our ports, borders and chemical plants remain unsecured."
Pryor also said Bush shouldn't have cut funds to train police and other emergency workers, in places like Pine Bluff, one of Arkansas' largest cities. Bush should back policies to screen all cargo on planes and arriving at U.S. ports, and adopt all recommendations from the bipartisan commission that investigated the 2001 attacks, said Pryor, who serves on the Homeland Security Committee.
Pryor termed the bombing plots "a stark reminder of the dangerous world we live in."
Michelimacinac, though, has a big ol' bridge and something like that just attracts the heck out of these guys.
They are into SYMBOLIC attacks.
So the Party of Terrorists rights, killing the Patriot Act and court cases for terrorists is now saying the President is not keeping us safe.... but they will??
"Americans deserve real security, not just leaders who talk tough but fail to deliver."
We have real security. The terrorists were stopped. President Bush delivered.
If the media, the left, and CAIR wasn't fighting against us, we could stretch a dollar in this war farther.
Bush is not the enemy.
That's because everytime G.W. tries to actually DO SOMETHING THE DEMS COMPLAIN IT'S ILLEGAL!
What's Pryor's voting record on things like the Patriot Act?
Yet when questioned about what he and his fellow Democrats would do to better protect Americans, all you would hear is **crickets**
I suppose Pryor thinks that Jimmy Carter et al are keeping us safe. Give me a break!
If there have been NO attacks on American soil since the WOT began after 911, what is YOUR definition of "NOT keeping Americans safe"? Hmmmmm?
Dims live in an alternate universe!!
Pryor you suck.
And... when a Democrat votes to just what Pryor suggests, (Lieberman anyone?) he gets dragged through the sewer and tossed away like garbage.... Nevermind that just 6 years ago he was their proposal for VP.
You said it..these idiots don't know their
a$$ from a hole in the ground....you want Hillary or
Edwards to keep you safe????? I think it is a good time to sell those bomb shelters (60's)...if you really
think the voters are that dumb to put thesee lilquetoasts
in power....geez...heaven help us?? Jake
Excuse me .. these are the very same people who didn't support the Patriot Act; the NSA wire tapping; or the Swift plan to follow the money.
They talk a good game .. however, when it comes to playing the game they flunk out EVERY TIME.
How many times did Bubba stand before a camera and wave his finger in our faces claiming he was going "to hunt down the terrorists and bring them to justice" - AND IT NEVER HAPPENED.
I've seen this logic used in Britain also. Must have been an international liberal talking points bulletin. The logic here seems to be that we shouldn't fight a war because we might not be prepared for the next one. Thanks for that bit of logic Mark.
The question is does anyone believe that Democrats will keep us safer or rather will their appeasement rhetoric lead to the emboldening of the terrorists?
