Cuba's New Dictator
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 8/10/2006

Posted on 08/12/2006 10:01:11 AM PDT by Tailgunner Joe

Without so much as a greeting to the nation, Cuba's new ruler showed his intentions by calling up Cuban military-age men in a forced mobilization to "defend the republic." He also imposed a press blackout, kicking Western reporters out of Cuba and sending his secret police to crack down on the country's 10,000 illegal satellite dishes.

Seeing war everywhere, his directive declared the TV-signal receptors "U.S. weapons." ...

Besides turning satellite dishes into weapons, Raul also turned the Cuban military into a for-profit business, amassing considerable wealth that in Cuba swiftly becomes power.

Raul's military machine runs gas stations, tourist hotels, mines, repair shops, sugar, real estate and dollar stores across the island, similar to the Chinese army's business empire before it professionalized in the past decade. Anyone who buys a Cuban cigar ultimately gives Raul his cut.

Raul's war footing is a means of taking control. But it will be directed at the U.S. even more than in the past, and benefit our enemies. ...Cuba already has a little-discussed strategic alliance with the Iranian regime that Raul has encouraged. ...

Although dirt-poor Cuba would seem to have few resources with which to threaten the U.S. on Iran's behalf, Raul's intelligence apparatus has a record of intercepting U.S. communications. It also has a network of spies in this country. Their output and analysis of American capabilities could help Iran in any confrontation with the U.S. ...

During the Cuban revolution... Raul kidnapped 47 U.S. servicemen and mine workers in 1958, and blatantly ignored Commandante Fidel's orders to free them. He calculated they'd be good human shields against any Batista government strike at his guerrillas, and the Americans would cave in to his demands. He calculated right, and got what he wanted...

Don't be too sure of that. Fidel's surgery ended up being a colostomy, he has cancer and may not be around long however bet he appears for his birthday celebration tomorrow.

As long as he criticizes America, Raul could kill all first born children and the Left would kiss his feet.

I don't get it...Why the hell don't we send 1000 Marines down there and hand it over to the exiles in Miami that will make it what it should be? The place is a gold mine waiting to be opened...

It does look like it's over for Fidel, these aren't the actions of a "temporary" dictator.

Which commie maggots do you mean? Is it the Cuban government, all the little Castro wannabes clamoring around in Central and South America or the Chicoms?

Regardless of the one you choose, I agree.

If you want it to be a gold mine, send Americans, not Cubans.

You're right, I don't know why we haven't taken out this tin-pot regime years ago and returned it to free enterprise.

LOL...literally...after a colostomy, Fidel has lost most of his guts.

They're both a couple of hoods, thugs and nothing more than mass serial killers..

Fidel Castro: I don't care what happens to Cuba after my death.

I think before the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, there were "guarantees" from the Soviets to the United States that dated from the Cuban Missile Crisis that, the Soviet Union would not put missiles in Cuba to America, as long as the US did not invade Cuba and overthrow Castro. In other words, had Reagan tried Grenada on Cuba the Soviets would have threatened mushroom clouds over New York, LA, etc.

But after 1991 I'm not sure. In theory, Yeltsin or even Putin had no stomach to defend that thug.

Here in Arizona, we had a commie governor named Raul Castro back in the seventies. The guy was a crook and Jimmy Carter appointed him ambassador to El Salvador.

Wonder if it's the same guy. (sarc)
