Brian Williams, NBC anchor Makes Stunning Commnent Comparing Navy Seals and Army Ranger to terrorist
Freerepublic | August 10, 2006 | Westpole

Posted on 08/10/2006 4:23:12 PM PDT by Westpole

ON Hardball NBC anchor Brian Williams was asked by Chris Matthews if it was suprising that British muslims that had been exposed to western values, and where even British citizens would still hate us so much they would be willing to give up their lives to kill us. What was Brian Williams pontification? He said "we have guys on our side like that too. They are called Army Rangers and Navy Seals."

What kind of mind would make that comparison. The question was what kind of hatered would overcome even a westernized muslin to want to die just to kill innocent people. Brian Williams had to go out of his way to too be too judgemental about terrorists and gave them the same moral equivalence as our Navy Seals and Army Rangers. This ought to be a hanging offence!

" Brian Williams has a habit of quoting some unnamed person in order to be able to get the sentiment on the air without it being attributed directly to him..........."

Williams has a loooong history of bizarre statements on air.
A FreeRepublic search on Brian Williams yields many examples.

( After Katrina ) "Not to be outdone, Williams lectured: “I hope the lesson of this is not that my son and daughter at home have been assigned a different value as humans in the United States than their equivalents here in New Orleans.”

Kurtz asked the obvious question: Has Williams become a crusader?
“I don’t think so,” said Williams. But, wait, Kurtz pointed out, you signed off the other night
in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans saying “This is a neighborhood that’s been left to die.”

"He demanded in January this year: "With the U.S. locked in dependence on foreign oil, is it downright unpatriotic to drive an SUV?"

" when a fellow panelist "mentioned that bloggers had had a big impact on the reporting on Election Day,
Williams waved that point away by quipping that the self-styled journalists are
'on an equal footing with someone in a bathroom with a modem.'"

OK, but did Brian Williams give Cynthia her "pass" before her goons said anti-Semitic remarks or after they called reporters "MF'in Crackers"? Or didn't he even bother to cover the story?

I couldn't agree more. What reprehensible people. And you are so right about Ron Reagan. He is a complete and utter disgrace, and that saddens me very much. My husband and I deeply admired and respected his father.

You are doing this forum a disservice by MISREPRESNTING what happened.

Here is the entire segment. 5.5MB wmv

I agree with Howlin. It was a piss poor choice of words, but not the outrage some would like it to be.

. . . hate us so much they would be willing to give up their lives to kill us. What was Brian Williams pontification? He said "we have guys on our side like that too. They are called Army Rangers and Navy Seals."
it's obvious that what he meant was that we have our own very lethal warriors.
BULL SH*T He does not understand the difference between people who will give their lives to save people and those who give their lives to kill people.
My first reaction was Common Tator's reaction.

My second reaction was mc6809e's reaction.

My third reaction was that even to the extent that mc6809e's reaction is true, it still manifests an Establishment (i.e., "objective" journalism) affectation of superiority.

It casually sets the Seals and Rangers on a plane of moral equivalence to homicidal maniacs and in presuming to even insinuate that judgement it sets "objective" journalism on a different and higher plane than the Seals and the Rangers.

And put what face on it you will, that is offensive. Casually presumed superiority is also the defining characteristic of "objective" journalism.

I've watched the segment on the tape I made overnight.

Williams was not overtly malicious, no...but his comments were not merely innocently stupid either.

He was probably trying to say that on both sides, there are people doing unimaginable things...the terrorists kill themselves and innocent others....our Spec Ops and first responders head into incredible dangerous situations.

But Williams's putting the 2 very different groups of people into one sentence in that ridiculous way came out of a mindset that seeks to "understand" the diabolical nature of our enemy...to find connections to what we are familiar with..to link with them...however you want to put it, and that is what I continue to find outrageous...whether the statement comes from Brian Williams or the Edwards comment which Matthews referenced: that if these people just live among us, they'll come to love and like us.

These wrong-headed assumptions are going to get us all killed.

In no way do I want our brave guys associated with such evil people.

Statements and actions don't not have to be overtly malicious to be dangerous.

Thank God someone here caught this seditious bastard! I just about gagged on my dinner last night when I saw this traitor spew his bile!

Let's pray that the video/audio of Williams' blasphemy is secured... and that it gets to be shown to the American people!

Finally, someone who gets it right. His statement was innocent enough in his eyes, but it is his leftist mindset that allows him to make the moral equivalence in the first place. There is no doubting what he tried to say, and I give Howlin credit for sticking up for him. I do think his skewed world view allows him to put terrorists and first responders/soldiers in the same category. That, I can not excuse.

I had the misfortune of having ABC GMA on at 7 am and within 5 minutes Diane Sawyer was giving a weepy "Islamic people helped with this investigation too" BS disclaimer.

"What else would you expect from a Liberal Canadian?"

He's not Canadian. I Googled and it gave his place of birth as Elmira, New York. You're probably confusing him with the late Peter Jennings who was originally Canadian. Their styles of dress and presentation are not dissimilar.
