The Gathering Storm

From Charlie Cook's forthcoming National Journal column: "Time is running out for Republicans. Unless something dramatic happens before Election Day, Democrats will take control of the House. And the chances that they’ll seize the Senate are rising toward 50-50.

"The electoral hurricane bearing down on the GOP looks likely to be a Category 4 or 5, strong enough to destroy at least one of the party’s majorities. The political climate feels much as it did before previous elections that produced sizable upheavals, such as in 1994, when Democrats lost 52 House seats, eight Senate seats, and control of both chambers."

except that -- in 1994 -- the pundit class (led by Charlie Cook) continued top deny the magnitude of the forthcoming change up until it happened... and it's August, not October... right now, lots of folks are considering their options without thinking through if the alternative is really acceptable.

This guy predicts the Democrats winning back the House every two years. He did it in 2002, I know, and also said Kerry would win the presidency.

Didn't this guy predict that Comet Harumphtquetz would vaporize Earth in 2003?

They are relying upon Democratically weighted polls to predict a November win for the Dems, just so they can say it was stolen by the evil, crooked Republicans.

If a majority of American voters are that stupid... they deserve what they will get.

Cook is a hysteric Leftist, NOT a serious political thinker. This is like asking Jame Carvell what he thinks. It pure propaganda. They pull this out EVERY 2 years. The DNC Whores like Cook do this because the DNC figures it will help depress Republican Fund raising in the last period going into the Campaign.

Go study your history. Cook sings the same song makes the same claims EVERY election year.

NEVER will you ever hear any of these Junk Media types like Cook ever tell you how much trouble the Dems are in. Not in 1980, 1984, 1994 or 2002.

Life is a bell curve. Anyone who continually falls on the extreme end one way or the other is an Advocate, not an Analysis.

You and I agree again, because this is pure advocacy. Never does the media tell us when our side is riding a wave. I still remember these people telling us the Reagan/Carter race was too close to call on election day.

Real Democratic years like 1986 and 1998 have shocked them, because they said the same thing as always going in.

Yeah - I remember that night - Peter Jennings said the voters were having a "temper tantrum"

MN, we need to tell GOP voters how Bias Cook is, here re examples of Cook and his liberla media buddies screwing up:

1. Cook made the CAL-50th special election a Tossup and leaned it towards Busby.

2. Exit Polls on election day 2004, a Fraudulent trist by the liberal media to suppress the GOP vote.

3. Cook saying in 2002 thaBush would lose the House and Senate due to the 2 year itch.

4. Cook predicts in 2004 along with worthless Sabato:
1. Daschle beats Thune
2. John beats Vitter
3. Knowles beats Murkowski
4. Castor beats Martinez
5. Bowles beats Burr

Even if Dems win, the big picture will revert momentarily. Dems will fail to prosecute the War Against Islamofascism, and we'll get hit again. The very next election cycle, Rs will be back in.

Unfortunately, we'll have another strike. Fortunately, it will always play to the favor of the party willing to defend the Republic.

Wow, I haven't ever compared Cook vs. reality. I've heard him talk and he didn't come across as a liberal. I think he charges a fortune for his report, doesn't he?

That is why Cook is good, he is able to suppress his bias for his Careers sake to look non partisan. But if you archive his analysis from every election since 1992 you will see his obvious GOP gloom and doom every summer, scrabble.

Singing to self:

Don't Bogart that joint my friend,
Pass it over to me. (Repeat)

Roool another one,
Just like the other one.
You've been hanging onto it,
And I sure would like a hit.

Chorus (All together now)

Don't Bogart that joint my friend . . .

Good response. Charlie Cook is not too bright. An old boss of mine once told me that, "If you are born dumb and know it, you will do just fine in life. If you are born dumb and think you are smart, you are in for big trouble." Charlie Cook likes to make us think he is neutral, which is fooling no one. The poor fool has not been right for years. HO-HUM!!!
