Cyberbullying on the Internet: Cyber bullies, cyber bullying, flame mail, hate mail
Bully OnLine ^
Posted on 08/02/2006 10:19:27 AM PDT by EveningStar
The Internet provides the perfect forum for cyberbullies, individuals whose aim is to gain gratification from the distress caused by provoking and tormenting others. The anonymity, ease of provocation, and almost infinite source of targets means the Internet is full of predators from pedophiles targeting children to serial bullies targeting ... anybody.
Cyberbullies get a perverse sense of satisfaction (called gratification) from sending people flame mail and hate mail. Flame mail is an email whose contents are designed to inflame and enrage. Hate mail is hatred (including prejudice, racism, sexism etc) in an email...

I just forward any such mail to their ISP, which is typically a violation of their service agreement. Most of these pinheads don't realize that.

I think cyberbullies are easier to deal with than real bullies. Hit the SPAM key on your e-mail site. Of course whoever wrote this crap doesn't live in the real world.

I tend to speak out with my conservative views on the newsgroups I visit. Some people don't like that.
As a result, I have been signed up for various liberal websites using my original email address in the past--like NARAL, and then I would receive daily updates etc from that disgusting organization. I couldn't unsubscribe from them because the troll who signed me up used a password.
I learned how to use fake emails and mail filters because of that experience. So yes, there are mean bullies on the internet.

I know who you mean. They are what they mock.
Many serial bullies are also serial attention-seekers. More than anything else they want attention. It doesn't matter what type of attention they get, positive or negative, as long as they can provoke someone into paying them attention. It's like a 2-year-old child throwing a tantrum to get attention from a parent. The best way to treat bullies is to refuse to respond and to refuse to engage them - which they really hate.

I've experienced too many cyber bullies on FR to count them. Funny thing, when I eventually met some of them in person, they were generally meek twerps.
They would never say the same things in person they post on the internet. Passive aggressive Chicken shiites.

They are what they mock.Hey Hair! Funny how that works isn't it? The cyber bullies don't bother me so much -- they're like a bunch of 2 year olds throwing tantrums. But when they cross over into real life, it's an entirely different matter. And for those who think that doesn't happen, thank your lucky stars that you don't know better!

I've had my little feelers hurt on FR a few times, and it used to happen pretty regularly in the wild old days. You can either shrug it off or you can do as I do - hunt them down like dogs and give them a full magazine of hollowpoints into the torso. I guess there's middle ground but why bother?
To: Billthedrill
I don't go there and I hope no one else here does either.

I see a pretty big difference between being beaten up by a bully and being the target of hostile email or posts.
Adults who get too emotionally invested in this sort of thing need to step back from the computer. Nobody is going stomp on glasses if you ignore an email.
