China Conducts Nighttime Missile Exercises Near Mt. Baekdu(Changbai)

Missile launch exercise of PLA (from (previous) news data)
Unusual military activities in Sino-N. Korean border area

(Hong Kong = Yonhap News) Chung Juho correspondent = China, which has been claiming Mt Baekdu as its territory and carrying out 'Mt. Changbai Project,' recently conducted large-scale nighttime missile launch exercises around Mt. Baekdu.

The Internet edition of Jiefang Junbao, PLA's official newspaper, reported on Aug. 1st that, around 9:23pm, July 25, an artillery unit belonging to Shenyang Military District conducted nighttime missile launch exercises under difficult weather condition.

All 23 missiles launched reportedly scored confirmed hit on airborne and ground targets.

The exercises included the shoot-down of airborne targets  such as helicopters under bad weather condition at night. This is analogous to the situation where N. Korea launched missiles on July 5, under bad weather condition, in early morning.

The newspaper did not reveal what scenario this exercises are for, but attention is paid to the possibility that the recent N. Korean missile crisis caused China to keep its distance from N. Korea and started the earnest development of Mt. Baekdu area.

It reported that five experts from military schools were invited to attend the exercise and evaluate the training, and PLA's combat ability using electronic information was shown to have markedly improved.

Is this the case of China saying to N. Korea, "If you launch missiles, we can do it, too. Watch your back."?

By the way, Mt. Baekdu is militarily a pretty sensitive area for N. Korea. Kim Jong-il's wartime command bunker is there. It was built there so that N. Kroea's enemy(from south) cannot bomb it at will out of fear that some bombs or shells could stray into Chinese territory. However, it could make the place really vulnerable to Chinese attack, even if it is well-fortified. It is just over "the hill" from China.

An interesting development.

With GPS munitions, that deterrent has been rendered impotent.

Please refresh the memory here. Isn't Mt. Chonma near Mt. Baektu? At any rate, this is where the rat Mr. Chia Head went underground for nearly one month during the Iraq War startup, he was shivering in his boots and pissing up a stream down his pantleg.

Re #4

I think Mt. Chonma is some distance away in N. Pyongan Province. Any way, Mudubong, the Third Stronghold, is there along with his Samjiyon facility. I wonder how big and extensive Mudubong facility is. Kim Jong-il made it a top priority project 3~4 years ago. It must have been completed and ready by now.

They didnt need to shot 23 Missiles under bad weather, Even Chuck Norris could have taken down the entire Chia Army by pointing his finger at them and yelling BANG. Thats how he assasinated Kim "Next Week".

I can't understand you comments. China doesn't want a full scale conflict on the Korean Peninsula, and doesn't want Japan to drift toward a nuclear capability. Even though, they might already have that. Countries of any size hide all kinds of nasty stuff under the umbrella of black projects. God knows what we have on tap in the Nevada desert, and that is why I find it hard for us to make moral argument for nonproliferation.
