High school civics teacher Gordon Johnson Well, if there is an attack at a stadium and it is found that the perp was a suicide bomber that could have been stopped with a pat down, we can all thank Gordon Johnson.

This from a judge who is probably surrounded by armed court officers all day. I wonder what security at his courtroom door is like.

Yep..thanks to these people..life is no longer a civil liberty..

Wow! A judge that understands probable cause, common law custom during war time and the 4th amendment. Maybe we can stop patting down grannies in wheelchairs and focus on suspects that might be hauling bombs.

Who is doing the searches? Is it the police or is it a private security firm? That seems to be an important detail. I guess the Tampa Sports Authority is a government agency? I wouldn't see a problem with searches if the group doing the searches were a private security force working for the owners of the venue/team/whatever.

That ruling seems criminal in itself in today's world.
Bet those games can blow up real good for terrorists without security.

Cutting to the chase, yeah, this U.S. District Judge James D. Whittemore is a Clinton scumbag.
To: Cagey
No biggie. Everybody knows the terrorists are coming in blimps. They should be patting down muzzie blimp drivers.
To: Cagey
They are really trying to destroy America, aren't they? Even if flies in the face just plain common sense.
To: Cagey
So: we've just announced to terrorist cells out there planning destruction and mayhem: hey, you won't be patted down at the gates to stadiums packing 60 thousand people!
Maybe the Constitition is a suicide pact after all. The judge seems to think so...
To: Cagey
Mr. Johnson is the first one to complain about the pat downs. Guaranteed, he would be the first to criticize security, the police department or the Republican administration if a bomb went off in the stadium. People like Gordon Johnson, liberal democrat NEA pot smoking drug dealing, purple diaper wearer make life more dangerous for all of us and tie up the courts with nuisance lawsuits.

It's funny. We have the liberty bell being rung on this thread about pat-downs at stadiums, an obvious target for terrorists, about as obvious as trying to blow up the World Trade Center.
And meanwhile, we can all accept Kelo being rammed down our throats, a much more serious stab at our liberties, done with no purpose such as keeping us safe during a time of war...
To: Cagey
Perhaps the judge does not attend sporting events, so has no reason to worry about his personal safety because of this decision?

No problem. Allow ticket holders to refuse the search, refuse entry to said ticket holders. No rights violated

Yeah, they'll have to lower their prices on food. Everybody here overreacting and talking about now they will be vulnerable to terrorists - many stadiums and arenas had these kinds of searches long before 9/11, either to prevent video cameras or "professional" camera equipment coming in, or to stop people from bringing food in (I will admit in some venues they may need metal detectors as the fans are a little crazy).
One of the most profitable areas for these venues is food, and I remember long before 9/11 people having to open their bags/jackets/etc. in order to insure that they weren't bringing food in.
Unfortunately, since 9/11, the stadiums, arenas, etc., now hide under the 9/11 umbrella, and they say "terrorists" instead of food. The price of food/drinks in these venues has gone up (although mostly due to natural inflation over time, and because the fans don't have a choice).
