Won't happen. The Russians have their hands full in Chechnya.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You underestimate the Russian Secret Service. Inlike the USA CIA, the Russians have the capacity and native language speakers to field assassins. They can reach out and snuff rhe perpetrators, one by one, and we would likely never hear of it.

In 1985, when terrorists took over the Soviet embassy in Beirut, a Spetsnaz strike team infiltrated the embassy, abducted four of the terrorists and sent one of their decapitated heads in a bag to the terrorists' leader.

Even today, Spetsnaz is the most exclusive -- and most secretive -- military unit in the world, more elite than the USA's famed Navy Seals or Delta Force. Comprised of snipers, explosives experts and close-quarters combat specialists, Spetsnaz handle counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, sabotage and reconnaissance missions. They operate in Chechnya and the Russian breakaway republics, and there are rumours of Spetsnaz operators in Afghanistan, helping with the hunt for Osama bin Laden. A March, 1999, Time magazine story about Spetsnaz soldiers freelancing as muscle for the Russian Mafia called them "a sinister force" and the "perfect killers."

They train at the Spetsinstitute in Moscow.

Every once in a while something makes my trigger finger twitch. For some reason this did!

I have a copy of a Berger's execution on my computer. I have only watched it once. Thats all it took to know what the remedy for these POSs is! There is only one.

LOL.

There have been many budget cuts in Russia since 1985. The glory days are passed.

Beslan was botched. Chechnya remains a running sore that the Russians can't bring to a finish.

The Russians are not going to be running any operations in an American-occupied Iraq without American permission and knowledge. The danger of getting into a firefight with Americans is way too great. And Putin has not developed the contacts with America which would allow a joint operation, His agenda is to put obstacles in the U.S.'s way. He can't reverse that policy on a dime.

If he has the resources you think, he would be better served finally nailing Basayev.

Do you think that President Bush would refuse a request from Pooty Poot for a Spetz Op in Iraq, for the sole purpose of running down the killers?

I bet Dubyah would drive an intelligence bargain there and also be on Pooty Poot's good side again.

Resources?

Heck if the Russian Gov. wouldnt pay for it the Russian Mafia would!

There is some cold Russian Blood boiling in the old Samovar this night!

The U.S. is not going to let Russian troops run around Iraq without a close coordination. That coordination does not exist right now, it would take months to set up, and to be blunt, I don't think Putin wants it to exist. The reason it doesn't exist is Putin has never been interested in it. He's never been interested in coordinating in the war on terror.

That doesn't mean there is no intel-sharing going on. But coordination, no. And the U.S. military is not going to mark off, say a square mile, and say "we're pulling our troops out of this, do what you want inside that square mile." And the Iraqi government would have to give permission. And they won't, either.

In this regard Putin is facing the fruits of his own policies vis-a-vis the U.S.

I understand the obstacles tanks to your brief,, and I also know that this is an oppotunity for them to work together. But a team of 12 covert operators wouldn't take much prep work. They will or they won't. We will have to see.

They have had this problem since the beginning. Most of the attacks like Beslan and in Moscow have beed a result of Russians taking bribes.

Its sickening what the love of money will do. There is a valed argument that a failed economy is a breeding ground for extremists behavior. These environments are the devil's breeding ground. My grandfather used to say that "idle time is the work of the Devil.". And then there is the preverbial "money is the root of all evil".

I wouldn't expect to see much come out of this. But if Putin gets his hands on these folks, it will be no Abu Grahib.

I agree with you.

I didn't hear of any terrible thing happening to muzzies after they killed a bunch of Russian children a couple of years ago. Why would we think they will do anything now?

P.C. has infested the "leadership" of the civilized(non muslm)world wider and deeper than anyone could ever imagined.

Car bombs going off at American malls, resturants and sports events will be the antidote for p.c. for Americans.......(maybe)???

Too bad for those whose outing is interrupted by a car bomb..

The difference is that the Russians and Chinese would never pussyfoot around with terrorists.

Was there any word about the 85 kidnapped last week?

I assume you're asking about the workers from northern Baghdad. It turns out that there were actually far fewer "kidnapped" than first reported (eye witnesses, as usual, exaggerated) and most were let go.

For more detail see Iraqi troops find bodies after workers abducted

"We need to drum up support to face the criminals and the terrorists to reactivate our economy by creating jobs, and giving opportunities and providing services to the people so to show everyone that we are serious in our commitment to serve our nation," al-Maliki said. The prime minister's plan, which he presented to parliament, stipulates amnesty will be granted to detainees who "have not committed war crimes, crimes against humanity, crimes against Iraqis and acts of violence."

If this is true (hard to tell from the MSM), WTF is going on here? I know it's their country, but do they want to succeed or perish in flames?

Sounds to me as if he wants to offer an olive branch to those who have been detained as possible terrorists but who haven't actually participated yet in active violence. Who knows? Maybe it might change the minds of a few, though doubtful.

Even though we've cut of a great deal of terrorist dollars (no more.... thanks to the msm), they still have money to offer any able body who will assist them. For folks who have NOTHING, it's an offer too good to resist.

"Wonder how the Russkies will react? "

They will insist Iraq is no longer safe, pull hatever is left of their diplomatic corps and at the UN they will blame the US for it.

Actually a good thing. At least they won't be telling the Iranians what is going on.
