Video shows Russian hostages killed

Sun Jun 25, 2006 11:29am ET

DUBAI (Reuters) - An Iraqi al Qaeda-led group said on Sunday it had killed four Russian embassy staff it had taken hostage, according to a statement posted on the Internet.

The statement said the posting included footage of the "execution". The group had demanded that Russia withdraw its troops from Chechnya and release all Muslim prisoners.

The Web posting showed video footage of the killing of two men it said were Russian hostages and the beheaded body of a third man.

It showed two militants beheading one of the men and the shooting of a second, after showing four men speaking in Russian in video statements dated June 13, 2006.

In Moscow, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman could not immediately confirm the report of the deaths.

The four embassy staff were kidnapped and a fifth was killed when gunmen blocked their vehicle in Baghdad on June 3.

"This is the video for carrying out God's ruling against the Russian diplomats...in revenge for our brothers and sisters for the torture and killing they received at the hands of the infidel Russian government," a statement by the Mujahideen Shura Council said.

The al-Qaeda-led Council said in an Internet posting last week it was holding the four Russians and had decided to kill them after Moscow failed to meet its demands.

Perhaps we will see how close the myth is to reality.

"Wonder how the Russkies will react?"

On many minds, I'm sure.

No doubt it will be brutal.

"Murdered" would be the correct term, not 'executed'.

CNN just makes me want to puke.

Wonder how the Russkies will react?

They will do nothing. As long as these people kill more Americans than Russians, they will continue to send money, weapons and nuclear technology to the death cult leaders.

Iraqi Al-Qaeda Group Says Kidnapped Russian Diplomats Killed
Created: 21.06.2006 22:44 MSK (GMT +3), Updated: 22:49 MSK

MosNews

A group loyal to al-Qaeda in Iraq said it killed four kidnapped Russian diplomats, the Bloomberg web-site reported on Wednesday quoting an Internet posting found by the Washington-based Search for International Terrorist Entities Institute.

Russia did not pay any ``attention to the significance of its citizens,’’ says a translation of the message by SITE researchers. The diplomats are Fyodor Zaitsev, Rinat Agliuglin, Anatoly Smirnov and Oleg Fedoseyev, CNN reported on June 19.

The posting was by a group called the Mujahedeen Shura Council, SITE said on its own Web site. Two days ago the group gave the Russian government 48 hours to pull out of Chechnya and free Muslim prisoners in Russian jails, according to an earlier statement translated into English by SITE.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pleaded for the diplomats’ release and said two weeks ago that Russian authorities were working with the Iraq government, Iraq special forces and the U.S. military in an effort to free the diplomats.

Chechen separatist Akhmed Zakayev yesterday denied any connection with the kidnappers and called for the diplomats’ release, Reuters reported. Zakayev is the exiled foreign minister of the Chechen rebel government.

The envoys were abducted in Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, on June 3. A fifth Russian official, Vitaly Titov, was killed in the course of the kidnapping.

In Moscow, the Russian government would not comment on the message about the possible slayings. Yevgeniy Khorishko, a spokesman at the Russian Embassy in Washington, said he wouldn’t comment unless his government confirmed the deaths of the diplomats.

Yes, American voters, vote for the Democrat Party and you and your children will end up like our brave beheaded soldiers and the murdered/slaughtered Russians. If you don't think that the Democrat Party is actively encouraging, abetting and aiding our enemies, you are all fools of the highest order!!! End of story!!!

It is very surprising that Russians (Mos News) knew about SITE. I wish it was kept away from foreigners' eye. SITE is too valuable to be noticed by foreign intel and news sources, especially unfriendly countries.

The Russian's have this problem yet they're in bed with the Iranians on their nuclear program. Any doubt if the Iranians are successful that the Chechen Islamists will eventually get an Iranian nuke? Go figure.
