The U.S. Senate is scheduled to vote today on a comprehensive immigration-reform bill. With thousands of illegal immigrants rushing across our borders every day, straining every sector of our society, congressional attention to this issue is appropriate and overdue. I come to this debate honestly seeking a legitimate solution to this divisive and contentious issue. However, if one were to imagine the worst possible way to reform our immigration system, it would probably look a lot like the immigration bill the U.S. Senate is currently considering—a broad amnesty program for most illegal immigrants, increased financial burdens on honest tax-paying American citizens, and incentives for illegal immigrants to raid the Social Security system and lie about their work history. While the Senate has not yet passed a final bill, there are three primary reasons why I cannot support S. 2611 as it is written.

Filibuster time!
Santorum's seat is at risk in November. Rest assured his yes vote has been designated for someone who is a lock in the next election.
I emailed both Santorum and Specter....recieved an email from Santorum....meant for someone else, didn't have my name on it, saying he was voting against the immigration bill....
On the other hand, Specter said that America was a melting pot of different people and should stay that way....so you know how he's voting....
Well, not that I go gaga with every breath that Rick Santorum takes, I applaud him for going against the tide. Will other GOP senators do the same? That heritage Foundation report said a mouthful--are they paying attention?
Sorry, I think they have the 60 votes to invoke cloture. Unfortunately, only Democrats seem to hang together for filibusters and they're not interested in this one.

Rick is definitely on the correct side of this issue. And I think it is genuine, and not election year puffery on his part. Hopefully, the numbskulls in this state will understand that he is about one of the few in the whole senate, with a for real conservative brain.
Now, if he can only get the local demo Ratz to stop peeping in his windows and scaring the bejeezus out of his family....

Well, that makes TWO Republican
Senators taking an opposition
stand today! I sure would like
to see more of them joining this
group. Maybe those e-mails we've
been sending (most of them being
paid for by citizens like us...)
are actually paying off!
Quite a few Republicans voted
NO on Cloture until it was
obvious that the AYES were
far in the front. Then Senators
like Frist changed their vote
just to have it over with.
How often do we see Senators come out before the final vote on a bill....one that their own party members are in favor of, and just slamming it!
He knows it is basically too late to get Senators to change their minds...but, he is still "calling them out"...and his own fellow Pennsylvania senator is the ringleader.
Good for Santorum....hopefully, this will help him in his election...
now it is up to the house and Hassert's word to keep the bill dead because a majority of the majority do not support it.
Thankrully it is an election year.
And, of course, you know Santorum and the Prez worked hard to keep Specter in the U.S. Senate when we could have Pat Toomey, a rock-solid conservative, in there now. But, no, Ricky worked his butt off for Specter. Now he's trying to appease the GOP Conservative base.
God, please help me get over my anger at Rick Santorum for doing this.
