CHICAGO (Reuters) - Merck & Co. Inc.'s vaccine to prevent the world's most prevalent sexually transmitted infection sailed through a panel of U.S. health experts, despite early fears of opposition from the Christian Right that it might lead to promiscuity and a false sense of security.

A) How does it lead to a false sense of security if it works?
B) What business is it of the church, who is promiscuous and who is not?

The complaint is that the company wants this vaccine MANDATED as a requisite for entering school.
This is outrageous IMO.

My previous post notwithstanding, mandating it for anyone is out of the question.

Agreed. The "mandated" part is what raised my blood pressure.

"Merck cancer vaccine faces Christian-right scrutiny"
This headline is misleading. The scrutiny would be mandating it's use on children. Not the vaccine. No one would be opposed to the vaccine.
Big difference.

It is getting to the point where the medical/pharmaceutical industry is taking over our children.
In NJ if you refuse to give your child Hepatitis vaccine your child could be removed from your custody.

The headline is not too misleading < /sarcasm>
Mandating the vaccine in order to enter school is wayyyy out of line.

The left will treat this "mandate" vaccine like abortion.
If parents object to the sexual behavior disease vaccine, then the left will school teachers will seek a method to by pass parental "religious supersticion".
I think we really have to educate the public about the fact this is about a vaccine for a sexual behavior caused illness.

What business is it of the church, who is promiscuous and who is not? It is not the business of the church any more then who steals and who does not steal, or who murders or who does not murder and so forth.
Are any of these things your business? Should you be allowed to have an opinion on them? Should you be allowed to vote for candidates that have a similar view on such issues as you do?
Or do you have a holier-then-the-church attitude? Alternativly do you think everyone should be completely neutral in all debates about right and wrong? Or only the ones that you deem should be debated?
Is it your business that the church cares about who is promiscuous and who is not? Is it OK for them to have thoughts that you do not approve of?
Do you think you have more rights then people who make up Churches because you feel they are too religious?

It is a huge difference.
The headline is just typical Reuters MSM nonsense.

I have to say, as a Christian and a medical student that anyone who opposes this vaccine on the grounds that it could encourage promiscuity is out of their minds. Do these people really thing that, "Hey, I could get HPV?" factors into the decision making process of people when it comes to promiscuity when the far more deadly question, "Hey, I could get AIDS?" won't? After all, it is only two strains of HPV that cause cervical cancer while AIDS is 100% fatal.
I really have a difficult time seeing how people could support a viewpoint such as this from a logical perspective and have to wonder if the real culprit is the "i hate vaccination because my naturopath told me so" crowd.

"The market isn't really going to develop quickly until state health departments start requiring it for school age children," A.G. Edwards analyst Al Rauch said, adding that the process would take two to five years. Excuse me. If how is that a market if it's mandated and Merk is the monopoly supplier?
To: fogcutter1
Maybe Merck will break above the $35 resistance level...
