The bottom line on President Bush's televised address on immigration Monday evening is this: For all of its five parts for achieving "comprehensive immigration reform," there wasn't enough lipstick -- nor mascara, rouge, blush or other cosmetics -- to disguise that Mr. Bush was selling an amnesty pig.
Most offensive was his implication that Americans aren't enough of a welcoming people if they reject the Bush-McCain-Hagel mass amnesty. The United States has the most generous -- overly generous, in fact -- immigration policy in the world. Mr. Bush stooped to the low tactic of implying our great generosity isn't generous enough.
On the border security part of the speech, Mr. Bush might have been more believable had the press not been filled beforehand with his assurances to Mexican Presidente Fox. Mr. Bush essentially told his buddy Vicente that the National Guard deployment was sufficiently weak and encumbered that illegal aliens and smugglers will hardly notice.
If Mr. Bush were sending 60,000 or 600,000 instead of 6,000 troops and it was the Army and Marines with "shoot-to-kill" orders, tanks and helicopters instead of the National Guard for a purely "support" role, he might gain some credibility.
If Mr. Bush, instead of coddling Mexico, gave Mr. Fox a bold warning to stop Mexican soldiers, gangsters and police from shooting at our Border Patrol and crossing into our country "or else," that would be the right message.

It's hard to take seriously an administration that has consistently undermined real immigration enforcement:
The Bush administration shut down the very effective NSEERS alien registration program, which deported 1,500 illegal Pakistani residents but sparked the self-deportation of 15,000. It chopped off interior Border Patrol sting operations where a handful of officers caught some 400 illegal aliens in short order. It put the highly effective Native American "Shadow Wolves" out of business. It virtually stopped employer sanctions enforcement -- citing just three companies in 2004 for hiring illegal aliens. It radically pared back the sending of no-match letters to employers when an employee Social Security number and name dont match (mostly indicating Social Security number fraud by illegal aliens). Administration lobbyists have routinely opposed the local law enforcement-empowering CLEAR Act and Homeland Security Enhancement Act behind closed Capitol Hill doors, and continued the sorry practice of refusing to cooperate with state and local police who capture illegal aliens during routine policework. The President now endorses rewarding illegal immigrants with a path to U.S. citizenship. This is the ultimate reward for lawbreaking. Whether they're legalized in one fell swoop or amnestied on the installment plan, the Bush-Senate approach is still plain old letting the lawbreakers keep their ill-gotten gains and heaping more benefits upon them -- precisely on account of their lawbreaking.
IMO Bush should halt all immigration and all citizenship, and call for a nation wide people vote.
A national ID card should be issued in a national database to deter voter fraud.
An issue this important should not be demagogued by politicians for political advantage. There are enormous pressures on politicians from both sides.
The message the rest of the world is getting from the farce and scam perpetrated on the American people is we are wimps on steroids, we are inviting disaster.
How weak does the Super Power look now?
National referendum, good idea.
Are there any plans to Freep Hagel? To me, he just as detestable as Schumer. When he speaks he oozes arrogance but he's so ignorant that the combo is tough to bear.
I'll send cash to any Republican who runs against him.
National ID card, bad idea.
We already have a national ID card, it's called the Socialist (In)Security card and it doesn't take a genious to see how badly that one has been abused.
What presidents always do is try to propose what can get passed. What People like the author always do is demand that presidents propose things that cannot be passed.
People on the right never understand the concept of what can be done with the people that are in congress. They want everything ... or nothing. They are always surprised when what they always get is nothing.
The right always sees to it the current situation prevails. By demanding all they get nothing and nothing changes. Unlike Democrats the Right has never mastered the concept of a little bit at a time. People like the author of this piece get to complain. They will until they wake up to find their complaints have been made illegal.
Editorial comment was illegal on Radio and TV from 1932 until 1987. Only newspapers could editorialize. With newspapers dying and possesing little power they cannot oppose a new fairness doctrine that applies to them. When the new Fairness Doctrine gets passed by Democrats, no one could legally criticize the regime in power. Of course the Democrats will wait UNTIL they are in power to enact such a law.
And you thought campaign finance reform was bad... You ain't seen nothing yet.
The media has been looking for a way for Democrats to take control of congress in 2006 and Hillary to be elected president in 2008. There are two ways to accomplish this goal. The first is to find a way to package the Democrat's congressional candidates and Hillary in such a way that a majority will support them.
The second way is to split the Republican party in two. There will be all sorts of opposition to what the President proposed on immigration.. Just like the media wanted. It may not even pass. If it does the media will paint the Bush plan as a total failure. If it doesn't pass they will blame him for being ineffective.
The immigration situation being out of control for nearly 18 years. Why has the media made it a big story in 2006? DUH even a dummy should be able to figure out it is a way for Democrats to take control of congress in 2006. The media had to find an issue that would divide Republicans. It took a while but they have found it.
Once the Democrats are in control of Congress, they and the MSM will drop the immigration issue like a hot potato. The media will not write a single story about it and it will drop off the national radar. The ingress of future Mexican Democrats will rise to new heights without a single media comment or notice.
Once again the media will have proven that they can manipulate the conservative base. They do it here on Free Republic. Don't think so? Try posting on FR a news item not covered by the media... It will get removed for not being authenticated by the media. Even Rush, Hannity, and Beck only cover the stories the MSM covers.
Of course once the Democrats are in charge they will re-regulate talk radio so political talk shows will once again be illegal. Did you know that from 1943 until 1987 political talk shows like Rush's were illegal? They were.
Plus there is a lot of talk in Democrat circles about making sites like Free Republic illegal.
When talk radio is gone and Free Republic is illegal you can console yourself that before your freedoms were lost you punished those rotten Republicans by electing Democrats to power. And after you have lost your freedom there will only be Liberals, Dinos and Rinos that get any media coverage in print, over the air and over the net.
Won't that be just special?
The media and Democrats can't accomplish there plan without our consent. The odds are they will get it.
Thank you for the read.
What good will talk radio be if it's all broadcast in Spanish?
...."What good will talk radio be if it's all broadcast in Spanish?"................

"Unlike Democrats the Right has never mastered the concept of a little bit at a time"
A little bit at a time always goes in one direction - to the left
McCain says "OK, don't call it amnesty, call it a 'banana'"
Isn't this the guy who campaigned in 2000 on the "Straight Talking Express"?
Is there any reason why the American people have to accept this crap?
It doesn't matter any more who is in charge.
Your grandchildren are destined to live in a northern version of Argentina. Accept it, and try to get in the ruling class so you can enjoy it.
It might be more like eastern Canada.
No, they speak English there.
....McCain says "OK, don't call it amnesty, call it a 'banana'"
Isn't this the guy who campaigned in 2000 on the "Straight Talking Express" ?......
Remember he lost ? we got W. So the new and improved Mc RinoCain campaign catch phrase for 2008 is ......... "Sh#t Talk Express"
