Now if he wanted to wear a satanic outfit the ACLU would be right there to protect his first amendment rights.

Then why are we reading about it on FR?

Apparently, someone at KTUL has decided that this item is newsworthy. There's nothing in the article that indicates that he initiated the coverage of it.

Yes, a slow day, and I think some people trying to find a flame war to join, or at the very least, some small town to bash.

Women wear gowns....

Kids wear caps....

What is bigger thrill for Mom and Pop seeing child graduate High school or seeing child become a Marine?

Anyone can graduate High School...

I wonder if the kid asked his commander if it was alright to wear his dress blues? Considering how military clothing regs change you can't assume he has the right without permission.

Would you approve of a Marine reservist selling cars at a dealership wearing the dress blues? After all if you say the dress uniform for civilian activities is dress blues then no Marine should have a suit.

One rule an adult should learn is to wear the correct attire for the occasion.

All the board as to do is to make exception to the rule for military uniforms. This is not a free speech issue but a matter of appropriate attire.

I side with those who say wear the traditional school garb for graduation and then get off the stage and reveal the blues.

Anything else is grandstanding.

Some of you may well be correct in that any marine could kick my butt, but that is not the sign of a good American. If you won't respect a difference of opinion then you have lost sight of the principles of this nation.

I fully realize the sacrifices being made by those who volunteer for military service, yet do not lose sight of how many other Americans go to work at dirty ,dangerous jobs every day for not a year or two but dozens.I speak of coal miners, mill workers, and other jobs in which many die and are maimed while trying to support their families.

Some fight and some make the tools needed for the fight.

Selling cars in Dress Blues is illegal, God only knows the Marines don't want be looked upon as a bunch of used cars salesmen.

However for any Civilian ceremonies The Corps prefers Marines dress up in their blues instead of a suit and tie, that why The Corps now issues Dress Blues to all Marines.

When I graduated boot camp only one Marine in each platoon received Dress blues, I had to go out and buy them if I wanted to wear them, at the time they were optional with the emphasis on being phased out entirely.

I have shared my thoughts with you many times and you know that I support our military, but I don't support the actions of this young man.

I think this young man just made a mockery of "The Few, The Proud, The Marines". The very first thing he did after receiving his uniform was to show disrespect for authority. He should go a long way...

Would the Marines allow him to dress in a cap and gown for boot camp closing ceremonies?

Depends on which side he put the tassel on.

He should have worn the cap and gown for the graduation ceremony and taken it off after, if he wanted.

I remember a time when any high school in these 50 states would have been damn proud to have had among their graduates a United States Marine fresh out of training, walking up in front of his family, his fellow students and his teachers and faculty to receive his diploma, and the principal would have shaken his hand and wished him Godspeed as he prepares to go off to war.

Maybe...but he chose to protect those in the stands as did the Army graduate. They should be honored and cherished. Not "made an exception".

They should fall in with their classmates and wear the cap and gown, not expect special treatment.

Too bad the young Marine sought to have an exception to the rules of his school.

Too bad the human filth that runs the school and the yellow-bellied pukes who would defend them sought to ignore this Marine's readiness to sacrifice his life to save their worthless blue-clad sacks of skin.
