LAMEDA -- The owner of a gun that a 3-year-old boy used in the accidental fatal shooting of a family friend is a gang member who may be heading for Mexico, Alameda authorities said today.
Police identified the gun owner as Eddy "Jovani" Silva, a friend of the 3-year-old's parents and a cousin of the man who was shot to death Monday at an apartment complex at 1777 Shoreline Drive. They said Silva may be armed and that they want to question him.
Silva, who also goes by Eddy Jovani Ramos Silva, may be fleeing for Mexico out of fear of being implicated in the shooting that killed his 22-year-old cousin, Luis Fernando Zepeda-Silva, police Lt. Dave Boersma said. They said Silva may be traveling with his girlfriend, Myriam Rebecca Mendoza, 18.
Silva is wanted on outstanding traffic warrants, investigators said. They have not been able to determine his immigration status but believe he was born outside the United States.
Police speculate that Silva hasn't come forward "because he feels he is in trouble for this incident, and we're wondering if his immigration status is keeping him from talking to us," Boersma said.
Authorities suspect that other people living in the apartment may have gang affiliations, although they could not say whether the boy's parents are gang members. They said Eddy Silva was among those living there.
Silva is described as 24 years old, 5-foot-7, 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He has tattoos on his back, chest, neck and shoulders.

the gop fiddles...
Story in the Houston Chronicle, D section, yesterday 05/09/06 talked about the amount of families in El Salvador who have one or more parents in the U.S. and how it is devastating the society there. Also National Public Radio had a feature on the same situation in Mexico and that there were instances where BOTH parents left for the U.S. leaving children behind. No wonder Latin America is producting heinous gangs.
If you see Eddy Jovani Ramos Silva, get out of the way, and point him toward the border.I hope he makes it, and stays there!
Not so fast!! If the gun was lying around where a child could access it, it was loaded and without a safety lock on it, shouldn't the owner be sent to prison? DOH, silly me, that's just white guys.
California has laws on the books with respect to children having access to firearms. Most guns shops in California display those laws prominently on large posters inside the store. I don't think an illegal alien actually purchased the firearm at a gun store where the warnings were posted. Gun laws are designed to harass law abiding citizens who make legal purchases in retail stores. Criminals buy or steal them on the street.
I doubt if a three year old could fire a gun unless it were cocked. Then there is a matter of aiming the weapon.
Just another hard-workng immigrant, doing the work that Americans won't do: giving guns to infants...
And if Boersma "wonders" about things like that, I wonder if he can find his own way home at night...
They're just arming the toddlers that Americans wont!
More than likely Thailand.
Is it really too much to ask that they go on their killing spree in their own country where apparently these things aren't considered a hate crime?

I don't doubt it for a second. My father brought a loaded 22 rifle into our house when I was a toddler. He was hunting and came home and placed the gun on a bed in the room where my brother and I were. He went into another room to say something to my mother. I crawled up on the bed and fired the gun. My brother was sitting in a chair when my parents ran into the room. They said that there was a bullet hole about 6 in" in the wall above his head. Bad things do happen. Even good people make stupid mistakes.

It was much better when the Mexicans made their messes in Mexico. Sorry but we are being invaded by crude uneducated "habla Espanol" county bumpkins. We should only be allowing in educated English speakers. Yesterday there was a post about some god forsaken Burmese tribe (the Karen) we are going to allow in. It's insane.
