From a LEGAL immigrant to you
Myself | 04/15/2006 | Mon

Posted on 04/15/2006 4:05:24 PM PDT by Mon

This is a letter I wrote to the US Senate, State Senate, House of Representative, my Governor/Lt. Governor, The White House and I'm in the process to send something simular to the local paper:

Knowing this will be complete ignored I will send it anyways!

I just wanted to express my disappointment in the Senate of the United States of America and our Government.

I am a LEGAL immigrant from Europe. Being married to an American I still had to go through the process, which is absolutely fine by me! I did everything by the book, paid money to come to this beautiful country, my parents-in-law here in the US even had to sign a form stating that they would have to take care of me financially incase I would need Welfare for the first 10 years. (that was a requirement to enter the US!!!!). We lived in California when I cam over in the 1990's; there as a LEGAL immigrant I could not receive Welfare for the first 10 years but ILLEGALS were able to. (I never planned on doing so but you never know what life has in it for you). Then when over 70% of the people voted to stop Wellfare for ILLEGALS there was an uproar. Excuse me? I at least pay taxes!

I see "en Espanol" everywhere or even the announcements at Walmart here in Mt. Vernon/Washington are in Spanish now, but what about other languages? That is not politically correct, that is singeling out a certain ethnic group and ignoring the rest of us. English being the official language or not, I don't care, it is the most spoken and everybody should learn it when living here. I WASN'T GIVEN AN OPTION, I love the English language, I love this country!

This is an absolute slap in the face for all of us who did and still do it the right way! And as a matter of fact, alot of LEGAL immigrants from Mexico do feel the way I do (personal experience), if the media would just bother and show them on TV or print what they have to say. Some call President Bush's reform "an insult to all immigrants." No, it is an insult to all LEGAL immigrants what the oponents want!!! But then it is all about getting new votes from people who don't understand 90% of what is being said, isn't it............

I'm a US Citizen now, it is a PRIVILEG you have to earn, not demand. Sincerely

From the people I have talked with, your attitude is the prevailing one.

Excellent letter. My Mom LEGALLY immigrated here from Germany in 1953 and while we are opposites politically, SHE is truly pissed at our government over this ussue.

My parents came here legally from Europe in 1951, after fleeing Czechoslovakia when the government was overthrown. They waited their turn, demonstrated that they would not be a burden to their new country, that they were healthy, and that they would be productive citizens. I'm appalled at what is happening with illegal immigration, and I'm sure they are too. Being an American citizen is indeed a privilege.

It would be wonderful to see protests all over the country from LEGAL immigrants. But unfortunately, the illegal immigrants from Mexico have a built-in advantage: a good many of them have legal families living here. So millions of citizens here have a personal interest in this issue.

Another problem is that too many employers and individuals have been spoiled by all the cheap, hard--working labor. Some that speak the loudest on this issue probably have a gardner or handyman or housekeeper who they hadn't looked too closely at.

Culturally, Texas and the Southwest were inhabited by the Spanish before the Mayflower. Spanish has always been a second unofficial language of Texas and many parts of California. Many people here are learning Spanish. Couple that with the larger birthrates to Hispanics than to Euro-Americans, and the country is going to be Mexamerica within a couple of generations.

You had to do it the hard way because your ethnic group here just didn't have enough political pull.

Excellent letter. I have friends and co-workers that are from other countries and I think this 'amnesty' or 'guest worker program' is completely unfair to those who had to abide by the rules to become a citizen.

Hell, my best friends girl is from France and got deported because she overstayed her visa!

When are WE gonna march the streets as voters to show Congress (like it would do any good) that we aren't going to stand for these amnesty proposals???

Good for you. I've been writing very similar letters for the past few weeks almost 24/7 and I know many others that have been doing the same, to all State and Washington Reps and the WH.

Why the brain deficient people in Washington D.C. are ignoring us (all LEGAL residents and citizens) blows my mind. To support the ILLEGAL ALIENS is an idiotic move on their part as that's not where the votes will be coming from in November. It makes me believe that none of them have an IQ over zero.

I have to wonder if any of them are aware of the SIMPSON BILL of 1995.

Insulted Legal Immigrant Ping!

This is an absolute slap in the face for all of us who did and still do it the right way!

Mon, that was the most beautiful letter I've read in a good long time. God Bless you and your husband, and his wonderful parents, for bringing you over here to be a proud and patriotic American.

Don't think for a minute that your letter won't have an impact somewhere. Our Congressmen and Women still listen to letter writers and, more especially, to those who call. Keep it up!

We should become active and picket Wal-Marts that have Spanish announcements....or at least boycott them.

Tell them why you will no longer shop there!

My wife is a Patrick Henry American. I say that, because for 3 months prior to her naturalization ceremony she went around telling everyone, “Just give me liberty or give me death.” And she did almost die in the immigration process due to severe reactions from a required INS immunization.

In August 2002 we applied to bring her then 22 year old daughter to America, and now as the adult daughter of a CITIZEN she will be able to legally immigrate here approximately 6 to 10 years after our application. In the interim she is not allowed to visit her Mom in this country, and that due to American law, NOT Russian. Five years after arriving she can apply for citizenship, and that totals 11 to 15 years. However, they would make illegal aliens eligible for a Green Card in 6 years and citizenship after 5 years for a total of 11 years. Some relatives of citizens have to wait 23 years to immigrate here legally, and add 5 years for citizenship for a total of 28 years.

Excuse me, but the man behind the curtain is telling us illegal aliens will have to go to the end of the line. How can it be illegal aliens will have to go to the end of the line, when they grain citizenship in 11 years, and legal immigrants arrive at that point in 11 to 28 years? Not only that, but the illegal aliens get to wait in line in America, whereas the 4 million attempting to immigrate legally have to wait in their countries. By the way, in the last 15 years almost twice as many immigrants have come here legally from Mexico than all Europe combined, and that does not include the illegal aliens. What ever happened to truth, justice, and the American way?

It's not Walmart who can stopped this.

The treasonist leaders in Washington are the ones who need to hear from every LEGAL citizen by email, fax and phone. Also pay a visit to their local offices if you live anywhere near one and be very vocal about your feelings and about them giving the USA away as if they were selling something at a swap meet.

Our lives and future generations rely on us winning this one.

My family moved to MT Vernon in 1962, my parents had 12 children and 9 still live in the area with their families. when I lived there, the farmers had migrant camps for the seasonal workers (strawberry pickers, etc.). The migrant workers were just that, they went back to Mexico when the season was over. But all the kids of MT Vernon also worked in the fields alongside these migrants and we thought it was a priviledge to earn some extra money for ourselves. Now the migrant camps are gone, the politicians passed child labor laws so the local kids don't get the work ethic, and the migrants found housing in Burlington and around 6th to 2nd Sts in MV. Now I hear that Burlington is almost all Hispanic and MV has a HUGE Hispanic population. My niece just looked at a house to buy all the way up on 27th and all the neighbors were Hispanic. we used to think that was where the rich people lived.

I agree with you, but what you do every day in your local community works its way to the Capitol.

But there's not time for that approach.

This issue is now critical and must be attacked at the top before they act on it as soon as they get back next week.

Nobody can tell me this country is not discriminating against European immigrants, in the name of "diversity." Europeans are being discriminated against because they are white. That is the ugly truth of it.

Yeah, everyone is worried about the Hispanics mobilizing people to vote in '06 and '08; well, I think a lot of Irish, Italian, German, Polish, Czech, Russian, and Filipino LEGAL IMMIGRANTS who are here will make sure that they register to vote also.

Somebody help me out here; agree or disagree?
