I'd like to request prayer for my brother, David (38). He will be undergoing surgery (soon, date not set till later this week) for a severely herniated cervical disc (between C6-7). The docs took one look at his MRI film and gave him no other alternatives but surgery (sounds like it will be arthroscopic, with a partial fusion). David is a bit shaken up about it, always been an active guy (running, cycling, hiking, kayaking). He's a dad to 3, and a great husband and brother. Any prayers are appreciated. Prayers from IN....I am glad your bro is in good shape already because that will be a huge help.
I have the same condition, in the same vertebrae, though mine has not yet advanced to the need for surgical intervention. I know several people who've had the procedure you describe and it is relatively minor. Their loss of range of motion after the fusion was pretty minimal. I certainly hope he makes out OK. Knowing the pain the herniation causes, I can bet that he'll be much happier after the surgery.

I work in emergency medicine and see this (disc problems) a lot... He will do fine.... Prayers sent up anyway..It always helps..
Thanks, everyone, for your prayers and words of encouragement. My brother said that the docs were very optimistic about this procedure and his recovery, but any surgery is scary. Your prayers and thoughts are definitely important to and appreciated by me and my family. Thanks and God bless.
