Over the decades, America has been infiltrated by a Fifth Column. In the last couple of weeks we've woken up to the sight of it protesting and marching in our streets, demanding their lawbreaking and sense of entitlement be acceded to and ratified at our nation's highest levels. With all this, Americans have been completely passive. There's no talk of even rounding them up and deporting the illegals at all these rallies. Its plain as day we don't the will to kick 'em out and preserve the character of our country for future generations.

"America is a continent, not a nation" I'm just waiting to see who our new continent leader will be.
Bush has effectively relinquished his position as president. He has the power to control the border and will not. He might as well step down now.

There's no talk of even rounding them up and deporting the illegals at all these rallies. Not enough boats to ship them back on. Stem the tide at the border, then recognize reality and assimilate the rest.

Anyone else feel like a second class citizen to these non citizens? No. Have you seen what they make in a year? What sort of jobs they have? The fact that that is considered a step up says volumes about Mexico itself.

Yep. We can spend billions on entitlement benefits but defending our country is too darned expensive. Now we know how the Romans disappeared - due to internal dessuetude that sapped the will of an entire civilization to go on living. If we can't even defend our country at the border, how are we going to defend it from our enemies abroad? The writing is on the wall.

Hardly. We'll pretend they don't exist and simply import and subsidize more of them. We are loath to give our pampered existence for the good of the country. Patriotism is so passe.

Exactly. Our will is lacking because we have made a calculation that whatever we lose in terms of our national identity, values and security as Americans is more than made up for by the bargains we get when we go shopping and out to eat. No one stops to think if its really all that worth it.

How do you arrest and deport a column 2 miles long? With a 3-mile-long cordon of ICE cops, if that's what it takes. Jorge Bush Jr. doesn't have the principles or the balls to even consider it, and sits idly while Americans get really pissed off.
This is going to be an interesting summer indeed.

Yep. We can spend billions on entitlement benefits but defending our country is too darned expensive. Cost/Benefit of arresting 7 million unskilled and semi-skilled laborers and deporting them doesn't compute. Secure the border, work on integrating those that are already here.
Now we know how the Romans disappeared - due to internal desuetude that sapped the will of an entire civilization to go on living.
Western Rome fell because she constantly hemorrhaged money using the legions to attempt to secure far-flung frontiers. This eventually led to Constantine splitting Rome into two empires that subsequently started competing with each other, leading to the collapse of the Western Roman Empire. The East hung on for the most part until 800 A.D. and only finally fell when the Turks sacked Constantinople.
If we can't even defend our country at the border, how are we going to defend it from our enemies abroad?
I'm more concerned about our failure to amend or eliminate the grotesque farm subsidies that we shell out every year. That, far more than anything else, speaks of a lack of political will to maintain ourselves as the preeminent nation.
The writing is on the wall.
Possibly, but things change. There are reasons to hope, yet.
The next test will be to see if the government caves to nativist pressure and builds some sort of wall on the Mexican border. If that happens, I have substantially reduced hopes for our future.

They are darn lucky I am not running the country. I would order mass arrests at these events, forcing every single participant to prove their legal right to be in this country or face deportation. Joseph Farah for president!!!
Sadly, he's right. This country is as doomed as any in Europe.
To: goldstategop
If America were to throw open its borders and grant blanket amnesty to any and all comers, we would quickly find ourselves outnumbered and estranged.
It's like the Palestinians' demand for a "right of return". After the return, what will become of us? We will be awash in a sea of babel.

The US has the resources to deport a huge number of illegals, given the will. And it's the will that's lacking, not the resources.Reactionary boondoggle. Why throw away a resource when you can adapt it to your needs?

What is the population of Houston? It was evacuated in a matter of days----and those people were all driving individual cars. What about all those school buses New Orleans is selling off on EBay? It works for me!

Yes, that's what we want, people demonstrating in public having their ID's checked because they might be illegal immigrants.
Do we also check them everywhere else? I wonder how many people expressing this sentiment were so vehemently against a national I.D. card. Now, they seem to think that it's just fine to card people who protest certain topics.
There are ways to deal with this problem--few in Washington have the guts to DO THEIR DUTY and pursue them. But carding people while they protest? Not in MY USA.
