Miller Brewing Co. Responds to Immigrants Boycott to Beer
Marketing y Medios ^ | March 16, 2006

Posted on 04/02/2006 5:27:20 PM PDT by HEMICRASHBOX

Miller Brewing Co. put out an unusual one-page advertisement in Thursday's edition of Hoy in Chicago. The headline reads: "Miller Brewing Company se opone a la legislación HR4437 contra la inmigración" (Miller Brewing Company Opposes HR4437 Anti-Immigration Legislation).

The ad is in response to growing support to boycott Miller products after a group of pro-immigrant organizations in Chicago found out the company has contributed to the political campaign of Republican Sen. James Sensenbrenner, of Wisconsin. The senator is behind the HR4437 bill, which calls for strengthening the anti-immigration laws in the United States, including the construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The boycott against Miller was conceived for March 10, during a massive demonstration in Chicago to protest the proposed bill, which is currently under debate in the Senate. According to the organizers, Miller Brewing Co. contributes "economically with anti-immigration politicians" such as Sensenbrenner.

According to a story in Hoy,, some small business owners said they have considered not selling any Miller products in their shops.

In a statement released Wednesday, Miller Brewing Co. stated that Miller has a long history of proudly supporting many national and local Hispanic organizations. "We hope you continue to responsibly enjoy Miller products with the knowledge that our company will continue to support the Hispanic community and the rights of immigrants," the statement read.

Yeah, been there Drank to destruction every night for 12 years. Stopped cold turkey for two years, been drinking lighter for the past few years! Alcoholism is a real bummer. Makes you wish you were messed up on a more fun drug after a while

Miller is wretched skunk-piss and I wouldn't drink it were I dying of thirst.

It's been about 7 years for me and I quit cold turkey too. That'll teach them to tell me I can't quit drinking. I'm stubborn.

LOL! That, and the fact that Corona is far more popular with the illegal set.

Nah. - you are tenacious.

Tenacity is a virtue. - tenacity got Washington through Valley Forge.

Stubbornness is fault. It is the stubborn defense of a liberal that allows him to cling to his beliefs and to discount rational thought in the face of all evidence to the contrary.

Yep.

I used to drink a lot more than that. Usually a 12 pack every night after work (not counting drafts after work in the bar) Weekends were a case or more per day. Can't really recall Christmas vacations too well but I drank plenty then.

Ahhh..good times...good times...

I drink it, that and Red Dog, $15.00 a 30 pack fits my budget. I'll call them tomorrow and tell them of my own boycott.

Believe it or not, I was in a seedy bar (someone I used to work with is moving out of state, and we stopped by to say goodbye), so I just ordered a small glass of whatever was on tap, and didn't even drink it.
We said our goodbyes, and left. My husband drinks Coors, usually I am a vodka sour girl, but I didn't want to stay that long.

Miller Brewing has a difficult choice: be boycotted by illegals (11 million) or be boycotted by US citizens (275 million).

Notice that they put the ad in Spanish in a Spanish-language paper. They were probably not expecting it would get much notice in English-language media

Go with Coors Light if you're doing a cheap American domestic based on political persuasions. See Pete Coors in Colorado running for the US Senate in Colorado.

I prefer good beer, but when it's a cheap night, Miller Lite used to be my goto. No more.

Miller tastes like soapy water.

MGD, yes. That stuff is AWFUL. I'm stunned they sell more than a case a year of that swill. Miller High Life, on the other hand, is pretty good, kind of like Corona without the hops.

No! Not corona.. that's for export if I had to guess.

Pacifico! Which in the bottle is fairly drinkable as those things go. I do like MGD now and then, and Hefes year round, tho no-one domestically makes one worth drinking.
