Colo. School Bans Flags Amid Protests Principal Says Students Used Flags To Taunt Others
(CBS) LONGMONT, Colo. Dozens of high school students protested a temporary school policy forbidding students from displaying the U.S. flag, as well as flags from other countries, amid racial tensions following immigration rallies.
Skyline High School Principal Tom Stumpf said American flags were brazenly waved in the faces of Hispanic students and in one case a Mexican flag was thrown into the face of another student.
"When it involves the American flag and its abuse in vilifying other people, we simply will not tolerate it," Stumpf said. "They were using the symbol derisively as misguided patriotism."
Students were warned about the policy Friday and several were suspended, although Stumpf would not provide details. Then, about 100 students protested during lunch time.
Student Dustin Carlson told the KCNC-TV, the CBS station in Denver, that he was suspended for two days.
"I'm getting suspended for it and personally I think that's uncalled for," he said. "If this country means freedom, then why can't we fly our own flag? It's ridiculous."

He needs to be kicked out as principal.
This kid is being disingenuous. It sounds to me like the kids were using the flag to taunt others. I don't think that's proper.

Well, he probably is a liberal, but if you take thirty seconds and read the article, you'll find that he has banned the display of all flags, not just the US flag.
Here's the deal about our glorious flag. It is not intended for use as an item to taunt others. That is not its function. Those who use it in that way are simply wrong.

The kids should all wear white shirts, red sweaters and blue pants - everyone will understand and there's nothing the school could do about it.

According to one student interviewed on air, kids wearing tees with flags and even one girl with a red/white/blue striped shirt were threatened with suspension.
How dare you ban the flying of the American flag.
You not only are dishonoring all that fought and died for the principles represented by our flag but you are teaching the students a horrible lesson.
If you had any honor, you would resign. Of course if you were an honorable person, this email would not be necessary.

And they should be punished. Banning the proper use (display) of the flag is not the appropriate response to its misuse.
How in the H E double L can a person be taunted with the American flag, if they came here to be American? This is BS.
Words fail me...
Kids can taunt one another by waving a piece of paper in another kid's face.
I am sure the flags we are talking about are on a stick and 2" X 3", that is downright intimidating. I say get over it, my hat was taken away and thrown back and forth over my head when I was a kid...........I said Waaaah, my dad said take care of it off grounds, after school..I did.
