Blood on their hands

Mayor Bloomberg went to Congress yesterday to testify against a "God-awful piece of legislation" that "coddles criminals and endangers police officers and citizens." Strong words, and on target.

The bill would in effect bar cops from using federal data to crack down on illegal gun trafficking - data showing that 60% of guns used in crimes trace back to 1% of the country's arms merchants. Powerful facts like this are the basis of New York City's lawsuit against gun manufacturers and distributors who persist in shipping deadly weapons to the rogue dealers. If the legislation passes, the suit dies.

This bill, sponsored by Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, a good ol' friend of the National Rifle Association, would even make it a felony to share the federal data with the wrong person. A New York cop who cooperated too closely with a New Jersey officer would risk prison.

"I have been to too many police officers' funerals to believe this bill actually has a prayer's chance in hell," the mayor said. "But if it does pass, the next time an officer is attacked by an illegal gun ... all who vote for this bill will bear some of the responsibility."

You got to love it, "They" are never responsible.
"They" are TRYING to do something, anything, everything
but arming the people who are the victims of crime.

BaAAAAH! Citizens! Arm yourselves!

You know, I've seen a lot of confiscated "weapons" which
the police department destroys, but you never see an article
wanting to outlaw screwdrivers, and BBQ forks, ice picks,
or any of the common defensive tools of the poor.

I fail to find a flaw with this. Collusion across state lines is a crime for we the people. So it should be good for a state government to collude across state lines?

Arms merchants? Wow, so the corner hardware store that also sells 22's is a "arms merchant". That would make Walmart a armagedon merchant I guess :).

If the dealers are rogue then they must be breaking a law. If they are breaking a law then they should be in jail. But then we all know its not about enforcing laws, its about controlling the sheep.

Source for that claim Meat heads? I suspect that 60% to 1% is another manufactured factoid the Junk Journalists throw out there with absolutely NO factual bases.

...data showing that 60% of guns used in crimes trace back to 1% of the country's arms merchants. Powerful facts like this...

...are largely misrepresented or fabricated for purposes of deceit and manipulation as these are. That 60% is not 60% of all guns used in crimes as the sentence states but 60% of the guns that can be traced. The "arms merchants" term refers to the holders of Federal Firearms Licenses, only a small percentage of whom actually sell firearms - an FFL is required to ship firearms from one place to another for repair or distribution whether you're in the business of selling them or not. By equivocating on those two terms alone the implication is that there is a small, evil underground of only a few people who are in the business of selling guns to criminals, and who take the trouble to keep legal records when they do so (else the firearms wouldn't be traceable). If this actually makes sense to anyone I'd love to know what they're smoking.

". . . the next time an officer is attacked by an illegal gun ... all who vote for this bill will bear some of the responsibility."

The hypocrisy of this guy is unbelievable. This is the same guy who signed Executive Order 41 -- which prohibits NYC employees from disclosing or even asking about a person's immigration status -- back in 2003. If the people who vote for this people bear some responsibility for any future attacks on police officers with "illegal guns," then surely this tiresome @sshole must bear some responsibility every time a crime is committed by an illegal alien.

If it's any consolation, Bloomberg's base is probably just as upset to hear their commisar mention "God" or "hell" as we are at the gungrabbing.

Actually what you brought up is a good basis for a lawsuit against santuary cities. If a city or organization shelters an illegal immigrant, could they be held responsible for the crimes committed by the illegal immigrant? Atleast the FFL dealer sold the weapon by the number, these cities on the other hand flaunt the law in the open. It is like an FFL dealer refusing to obey the background check requirement and went ahead and sold a weapon to a buyer because he has strong beliefs in privacy rights. It is moments like this that I wish I had a law degree.
