Many of these bishops are out of touch with the Vatican...

The trend in the Catholic Church has been more towards tradition and conservatism lately. So come help shift the tide even further.

:-). I love that!! Thank you very much for the encouragement.

I do get this sense on Catholic websites I have been going to and I am excited about that shift. This is part of the reason I was so dismayed when I read about the bishops. I wonder about what the popes response to all this will be. Maybe I could make an impact locally. West Los Angeles though, some of the worst limosine liberals in the world.

Not sure about the figure for bishops, but less than 1/3 of the dioceses have signed up to join the petition of the bishops.

They should all lose their tax exempt status.

LA is off the chart with their creative theology.

I can only imagine.

I'm not sure what petition you are speaking of. I didn't see it in the link you provided.

That said, the USCCB tends to march to their own drum (contrary to Rome), so I don't put a whole lot of credibility in them, especially with this issue.

Apologies. I used the term "petition" loosely. I do know that information kits have been sent to parishes to ecourage priests to "talk" to their congregations about the issue. Nothing has been said in my own church.

The US bishops do not speak "for the Church" as a whole.

So true...but even more to the point...the USSCB is a worthless organization which pretends to have any real canonical status and speak for the Church. I have a priest friend who says just as much. Of course, he's young and part of the new generation of clergy that is going to bury these old liberal fossil bishops.

I'll stick with the Pope himself and the authentic magisterium, thank you.

Thank you, and I'll join you there.

And I'll say an extra prayer tonight for your young priest, he'll need them!

No apology needed.

Interesting thing about these "information kits." Especially depending which diocese you are in, and which bishop/cardinal is heading it.

Like what jrny mentioned above, take heed with what the Pope himself and the authentic magisterium says. That way, you'll be informed if these "talks" are done in your parish.

"The fact is, most of us have to endure Sucralose sermons along the lines of "It's good to be good and it's nice to be nice."

Sorry to hear about it. We've getting some good, fiery homilies lately; Father has been on a roll. Been all I can do to stay seated and refrain from cheering.

"And I was thinking about going back to the Catholic church, because I am uncomfortable with the rising liberalism in my local Christian church that is increasingly effecting sermons and even how mass is structured. Well, looks like the LA diocese won't be getting this lady anytime soon. Thank you Jesus! :-)"

You should take a look at the eastern Catholic churches in L.A., of which there are several. As a rule, the eastern Catholic churches tend to be far more conservative in both theology and liturgical tradition. They are not administratively controlled by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese and have their own Bishops.

Are you actually saying that Benedict XVI would approve actions contrary to the teachings of part 2241 in the Catachism of the Catholic Church?

Publicly, he would say nothing contradictory to the US Bishops in their attempts to legalize immigrants currently in the country.

What has the Vatican said to contradict the American bishops?

Attempts at helping to legalize immigrants is the one thing, and the right (Catholic) thing to do.

Aiding and abetting breaking the law, as what Mahony is doing, is quite another.

Well, looks like Liberation Theology is making a comeback.
Right here in the USA.

I'm not Catholic and don't expect it will happen.
But I'd love to see Ratzinger lecture Mahoney like JPII did that one
Lib. Theology priest in Nicarauga...
