I got a 34 but only did it one time and wasn't quite sure what to do for a bit.

Don't know what you think Fanfan said but it's clear to me that she merely added that liberals have no problem with killing (presumably unborn) babies.

Hope you're a big enough person to just as loudly & publicly apologize.

Its a slaughter. Those seals cannot escape. I'm sorry but when hunters hunt their prey their prey has a 50/50 chance of escaping or at least trying to. These baby seals cannot even move hardly. That's slaughter in my book.

So it is. Why aren't you so profoundly moved with the SLAUGHTER of cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, turkeys, farmed fish, dolphin, shellfish, silkworms, whales....and such?

If SLAUGHTER is so awful, then you OUGHT to be outraged beyond these particular slaughtered animals, which just happen to be baby seals.

Doesn't make sense unless the only reason you are so moved is because the baby seals are so cute.
ALL "slaughtered" animals are helpless. VEAL and LAMB are babies when THEY are "slaughtered" too. No creature is a match against man....in the end.

I guess it just because the OTHER slaughtered animals aren't so public....not in your face, like the advocates for THIS particular creature.
Fuzzy sentiment.

Which is why the activists continue to lie about what really goes on. The practice of taking seal pups was banned in the 1980s so only ADULT seals are harvested. That hasn't stopped Greenpeace from using photos of the cute little baby seals, though.

Thanks, Squawk, for you input.

To areafiftyone: So, are you STILL outraged now that you know they are merely adult seals that are slaughtered? Or do you still hold that somehow slaughtered seals are more precious than the other slaughtered animals of this world?

It's illegal to kill the whitecoat pups -- has been since 1987. The continued use of these images by the anti-hunt organizations is the same type of willful distortion we see every day in various forms of anti-American propaganda. Conservatives should know better than to fall for such media trickery. (I'm not referring to the message in the words accompanying the picture).

The clubs are still used -- as well as shooting for the larger seals. The clubs kill at least as humanely as any of the methods used in slaughterhouses. In fact, many slaughterhouses continue to use sledge hammers to stun or kill animals. The only difference is that the seal slaughter is conducted in the open air, instead of behind closed doors.

Seal meat is used for food. Seal skins are used for clothing. Seal skin boots are popular in the far north, because they are very warm, and waterproof. (The Inuit wear the fur on the inside.)

areafiftyone: Well, do you still hold that slaughtered seals are more worthy than other slaughtered animals? Do you still buy into the fanatics' rant?
I would hope not.

And...? So...? What's your point? Slaughter, hunt, whatever - it's not like they're doing this for fun (as opposed to say shooting deer, lured by corn and apples, from a stand in a tree). It's just an industry, and the only good argument against it that I would pay any attention to is if it is unsustainable. Other than that it's no more brutal or cruel than what goes on in countless slaughterhouses every day.

Hearts bleed for so many odd reasons.
Common sense and clear, straight thinking has no part in bleeding hearts. Their sentiment comes from pure emotion....therefore unreachable by thinking, brainpower or logic.

Hindus eat meat. They just don't eat beef. They love goat and mutton.

You are mostly right. Their cows are still sacred. They eat chicken too.
Hindus will tell you that vegetarianism is superior to eating meat.
In so many areas of India, however, the growing season isn't so long so those areas have to use meat to survive. Also, their HUGE coastline is a cinch for eating fish and shellfish.

A penguin is driving down the road when his car overheats. He has a mechanic look at it and while he waits he gets an ice cream cone from the DQ. When he gets back the mechanic says "you blew a seal." Wiping his lip, the penguin replies "Naw, I was just eating some ice cream."

Would our Seal hunt be easier to accept if we ask the Bush Administration
label Canadian Seals as terrorists???

The Canadians are terrible conservationists.

They wiped out the bear and moose population on Canada --the moose crossed back into Quebec from Maine and they started to rebound.

The Canadians say that they kill seal pups because they eat the fish...nonsense. Baby seals do not eat fish and second, it's the dumb Canadian fishermen that overfished the seas. By the early 90s the entire cod population had been depleted...by humans not seal pups. They are doing the same in British Columbia today...overfishing.

Bottom line: killing baby seals serves no useful purpose except to keep some unemployed Canucks doing something and some bureacrazis employed.

Get your facts straight....
1. Baby Seal grow up into big blubbery thingies. They get that way by EATING FISH - LOTS OF FISH!!!!!!
2. Canadian Fishermen are prevented from overfishing by the Gov't.
OTOH, Fishermen from other countries (including the good ol' US of A)
are in our backyard fishing unrestricted and depleting our fish stocks.

Canadians value every living thingie (seal, fish whatever) equally. We
can save several hundred fish for every seal we kill. Therefore
do the math and you can see that our seal hunt
is akin to compassionate conservativism in the truest sense.

Here we go again. I see Canadian..I hear whining.

Baby seals do not eat fish.
Newfie fishermen I talked to didn't blame the US of A. They blame themselves and their govt. I wasn't surprised...the blame game.

Your assertion that canadians value every living thingie - is a crock of steaming you know what. Canadians talk a lot..but when it comes to doing it---it's molson's time.

Could you document that ? I once heard the bears came back over on the ice in January one year when the temperature got below freezing but I never heard that about the moose before .

Excuse Me. We are terrible conservationists? I Beg your pardon but it seems to me because of the slaughter of wolves by Americans, that you have had to import wolves from Canada just so you have a few left. I don't recall Canada having to import any Harp Seals from the US because we killed them all.

We have a couple of old has been celebrities, who want face time, come up here and Demand, none the less, that we stop the seal hunt. KMA bubs.

I don't like the seal hunt either. But be damned if I will give in to a couple of old has beens, who are not even Canadian citizens, come here and Demand, no less, that we stop the seal hunt. They can kiss my behind. I'm sure all of you Americans love it when foreigners come in and tell you how to run your country. You can do this, but you Can't do that.

Harp Seals are no where near extinction. Why are they not expending their energy in China for the Panda, and Africa for the Gorilla and Rhino. And the tigers are soooo endangered. Why are they whining about a species who is absolutely thriving? You tell me..... Face Time. I Say FO.

There may be areas where they were "wiped out" (most likely Indian areas) but there ain't no way in hell that the moose and bears have been wiped out in Canada.
