"One bomb is all it takes. And not even in Iran.
Run a nuclear weapons test on an atoll somewhere and announce that you are just checking the shelf life. Iran will announce the next day they are stopping their program."
Yup. But would them 'anouncing' they have stopped their program satisfy..... It'll be back to the Iraq scenario since 1991.
Except I think the Iranians have far more ability (and zealotry) to pull it off. And I'm pretty sure their inter continental delivery system will just be a suitcase in a car driven in from Mexico. Scary world huh!

At least someone is thinking!
It wouldn't even bother us much. It would bother Europe more.
With Iraq under control, all that would be needed is to boost their capacity, which wouldn't be hard to do. The Saudis wouldn't be effected, nor the emirates, Kuwait. Just Iran. It's just a drop in the bucket really as far as we are concerned.
Iran's aim is to cut off the shipping lanes. They want to stop ALL oil from reaching the west, Europe included.
Since France and Germany have sweetheart deals with Iran, they are hesitating. They are fools. They are asking to be held hostage by Iran.

Refute him? Try Murphy's Law.
The wisenheimer is talking large after failing his other major mission. How about he proves his own assertion before he commits American might and the political future of the Republican Party to a major military action.

He doesn't have the power to "commit" any of us to anything. Only we can do that. And Murphy's Law can apply to not taking action also.

Iran is years from having nukes, so the diplomatic pace is not on track for any near-term resolution ... I'm sticking with Dec 2008 as the attack timeframe. Maybe a year earlier, Dec 2007.
Not this year.

With support for further military operations way down, any kind of strike on Iran will not happen. At this point Bush does not have the political capital to give the go ahead for any further military operations.

This is tyhe only move Bush can make without risking impeachment, getting congress to authorize a strike on Iran. If Bush authorizes a strike on Iran, and it goes badly, with troops from Iran flooding Iraq, then I doubt Republicans in congress would shy away from impeachment.

That isn't a bad idea. Plus, don't we have a squadron of F-22s now? They should be able to take out anything the Iranians can put up. They are stealthy and bad to the airframe (bone).

Let's wait longer and let them move them like Saddam did or bury them deeper so we'll look like fools. That seems to be our never ending strategy. We like to look like fools, and we are. I understand that we have strategic nuclear bunker busters. Are we going to use them on Iran's nuclear facilities. Nooooo. So. Why did we build 'em in the first place. America is so PC, it makes me sick. If we know we are going to do something, do it now, instead of waiting for another 14 worthless friggin UN resolutions. /rant
Can any of you Poli Sci or military guys shed a light on this "strategy"?

It needs to be done in the daylight. I know it has more risk this way, but we need to get the people involved along with the facilities. The advisors, the scientists, these are more difficult to replace.I'd bet that those guys haven't seen the light of day in months. There are living quarters in these massive underground caverns just as in Afghanistan. This isn't like your little daily commute to the office.
