Quite a stretch: Denying a connection between Islamic terror and Islam itself is causing a backlash
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | 3/19/2006 | Jack Kelly

Posted on 03/19/2006 4:27:15 PM PST by Dark Skies

Mr. Taheri-azar's attack "has exposed not only the continuing danger of domestic terrorism but also the inability of some leaders and communities to recognize that danger and take it seriously," wrote Shannon Blosser in National Review.

The ludicrous lengths to which many in the Establishment go to avoid drawing any connection between Islamic terror and Islam itself is causing a backlash among Americans, one which is causing otherwise sensible people to overlook critically important distinctions.

The backlash was evident in the debate over the attempted acquisition by Dubai Ports World of the British firm which operates commercial terminals in some U.S. ports -- if Democratic demagoguery and Republican cowardice in the face of xenophobia can be characterized as "debate."

Every time I see the word "xenophobia now, I have to laugh and see the true word intended... instead of that PC abortion, xenonausea... which is more accurate.

Jack Kelly is the token conservative writing in "Pravda on the Three Rivers".

There is a vacuum of leadership in the world. It is defined, at a minimum, by the distance between our current leaders and this...

Islam is a rabid dog...it is not peaceful or benevolent.

"Instead of presenting themselves as victims, Muslims should address this fear by developing a moderate, modern and good neighborly version of Islam that rejects radical Islam, jihad and the subordination of 'infidels,' " he said.

This is laughable.

God (Allah in the case of the Muslims) sets the agenda, and not the adherants. If you can't follow the fundamentals of Islam or at least try to follow them; then get out of the religion.

Redesigning Islam to make it Infidel friendly is ridiculous. - Tom

...and the denial continues.
For a billion strong, they seem effortlessly to hide their rejection of mass murder, primitive incompetence, the arrogance of the delusional, the clear recognition of their inferiority.

And our leadership continues to feed all their obvious faults.

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities — but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome. * The River War, Churchill, (1899)

In over 100 years, our courage has evolved to the point we call the enemy "peaceful" and "benevolent." Any man that speaks the truth is not a token to me.

Good article. I agree that moderate Muslims themselves need to be at the forefront of this debate.

Newspeak is only effective on the ignorant. Or the insane.
What am I going to believe? The apologists or my own eyes and ears?

Modern Islam is no more violent than late medieval Christianity.

The big difference is Christianity had its renaissance and reformation, before it got the nuclear bomb. Islam may get the bomb first.

Sheikh Abdul Palazzi, secretary-general of the Italian Muslim Association, agrees:

"Muslims should be in the forefront of efforts to refute the Islamists and to counter their abuse of Islam," Sheikh Palazzi wrote. "Unfortunately, either from fear or for other reasons, Muslims are doing virtually nothing to distinguish authentic Islam from the counterfeit image presented by the Islamists."

Gee, whatever could those "other reasons" be?

<sigh> Moderate, rational, non-totalizing Muslims do have an uphill battle.

Palazzi's just another mask of the faceless one... the reassuring, reasonable, ecumenical cocktail party Mask.

There is no such thing as a moderate muslim...it's an oxymoron. The only good muslim is a dead muslim, and a better muslim is one that is good and dead

Curious how the xenophobes continually fail to realize the bulk of the people doing the fighting and dying ON OUR side of the War on Terror are also Arab Muslims. But that right, don't bother the Whine All The Time Choir with reality. They only want to hear validation of their rabid ignorance and political bigotry, not the truth.

They only want to hear validation of their rabid ignorance and political bigotry, not the truth.

Over and over again, your hysterical response misses the point.

Muslims are the first victims of islam. Do you believe that all the muslims culture does...the abuse of its women and children, the primitive horror of sharia, the hatred of Jews and Christians taught to children, the patriachy which buys the women leaving young men without spouses, the pederasty of imams...you approve of that in the name of tolerance.

The ignorance and bigotry exist mostly in the minds of those people that cannot separate islam from its muslim victims...and tolerate its evil.

This is extremely important, because these views can be shared the world over, ultimately, for effective action against terror.

The UN is a joke compared to this.
