The BBC should have its public charter revoked

The ideal of the BBC as a public service provider reporting the news with balance, and entertaining the general public is a good one. But sadly it is an ideal that can never be achieved while the BBC is staffed by people with a political point of view. And the BBC as a lot of people who all share a political point of view called the left.

There can be no argument that many great employees of the BBC are left leaning, John Birt, the former Director General is now a Labour Peer. James Naughtie is famous for his bias against all things to the right. Even to the extent of the classic Freudian slip he made on the Today programme while interviewing Labour MP Ed Balls on March 2nd 2005.

The examples of the BBC taking sides are everywhere:

“The BBC was last night plunged into a damaging general election row after it admitted equipping three hecklers with microphones and sending them into a campaign meeting addressed by Michael Howard, the Conservative leader.” (news.telegraph.co.uk 24/ 04/ 2005).

For me the final straw is the BBC's complete failiure to broadcast any event that occurs in the Middle East or because of the Middle East that could be seen as positive to the public. The bias is towards the bloodshed shown everyday, day after day which only makes people fell despondent about the war.

For every major act of murder the BBC gives credence to, there is a story of a TA Medics saving car crash victims in Basra or an Iraqi Mayor who praises the American military for saving his town. These stories are never aired so the news will always be bad.

At the end of the day I know the Gaurdianistas will print anything that helps to remodel the West in their image. I can and always do refrain from buying the Gaurdian, so their opinion is wasted on me. The BBC is different. If I want to watch the TV in my house I must pay an hefty tax which is strictly enforced, and the BBC is beamed into my house whether I choose to watch it or not.

That in itself is undemocratic and smacks of dictatorial TV.

I can choose where and when I receive my news about the world in every way except the BBC. I would prefer if the BBC was just another number on my Digi Box next to Sky News. So I could choose to view or not, just like people who live in a real Democracy could.

In the 'have your say' forum have you ever tried putting in something even mildly pro-Bush ? I never got published. And of the few that do I think are written by the staff and are not general user comments. The BBC is very much a part of the global anti american/left wing/pro muslim MSM

In most major markets in the US, one of the public TV broadcasts a half hour segment of the BBC News everyday. In the Twin Cities where I live, Channel 17 (tpt) broadcasts it twice a day. I believe these broadcasts are syndicated station-by-station. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to organize a campaign to pressure these stations to drop the BBC newscasts? This campaign could be done on a station-by-station basis. Getting just one station to drop the BBC would really make them sit up and take notice.
