Art ping!
Let me, Republicanprofessor or woofie know if you want on or off the art ping list.
I vote no on this one based on the drawing, but confess to not knowing too much about frescoes. The colors look like Michaelangelo, though perhaps they are typical of frescoe coloring of that era?
I wish we had a closeup of the signature to compare with recognized samples.
Thanks, ELS.

Mike would never make Christ look like he had a beer belly in the making, and that's what this looks like.

I'm no expert, but the poses and arrangement of the figures just does not look like Michelangelo.
Good point! The frescoe on the right is an authentic Michelangelo.

So Michaelangelo like to paint "al fresco".
I do my best work when I'm nekkid!

If it's Michaelangelo, he hadn't learned how to draw yet, but the article makes it sound like he was already well known, which would preclude his not having skills yet.

on a lighter note - I saw the previews tonight for "The daVinci Code" with Tom Hanks. (Well, I didn't see the previews with Tom, but :) )
Looks to be pretty good - Ron Howard directs - he's great.

oh , BYW, da Vinci did not paint or otherwise make the Shroud of Turin - the existance of which has been documented to for hundreds of years before da Vinci.
So sorry to all the non-beleivers and others who would have their applecarts upset...get used to eating applesauce. :)

Wow!
The differences are so stark even to me who am not a painter.

You may be comparing an early Michelangelo to a later Michelangelo.

Fresco is a tough ground for detail or nuance of line or color. Even a draughtsman as great as Michaelangelo--and he is one of the best--would have a tough time rendering the beautiful detail and certainty of line he is known for, at least in that medium.
To: Rembrandt_fan
Christ's limbs in this fresco are such that Michelangelo drew better than that at age 3. And as for detailing in fresco - why, either Adam or Haman on Sistine ceiling are done perfectly, with all the detail one could wish for, and ditto for the ignudi. The only piece on this fresco which could remotely be connected [judging from the thumbnail photo] is a small piece of the back in the figure on the right. But why would Michelangelo do a piece of one figure's back and nothing else? Even in collaborative effort an apprentice would normally be doing the whole figure, maybe a figure sans face, or the whole of the background.
