It is still "very, very, very difficult" for homosexual US actors to be open about their sexuality, he said.
"The film industry is very old fashioned in California," he said at the Berlin Film Festival, where he received a lifetime achievement award.
The British star of The Lord of the Rings said Oscar-nominated cowboy love story Brokeback Mountain may open the door to more films about homosexuality.
But the industry still had rigid ideas about leading men, he told reporters.
"It is very, very, very difficult for an American actor who wants a film career to be open about his sexuality. And even more difficult for a woman if she's lesbian.
"It's very distressing to me that that should be the case.

I was so disappointed with him as Mags. Magneto is my fav anti-hero, and this actor was too weak for the role.

Sharia law? I didn't realize that there were fundamentalist homosexuals. Sounds like a great idea for a movie. How about "BurkaBack mountain"?

This coming from a guy who worked for Brian Singer in Xmen. A director who is becoming notorious for hiring gay leads. His new movie Superman Returns features a gay director (Singer), the two writers are flaming, Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) is probably gay, and Superman (Brandon Routhe) is possibly gay. Watch for the actor playing Superman to come out before or after it premieres and/or the film itself to have some thinly veiled gay metaphor like Singer admits he did with Xmen.

He did an excellent job portarying Gandalf. I don't care that he's gay.
But Magneto should have been played by someone more like Sean Connery.

I completely missed the gay metaphor in either Xmen movie.

"I heard one homosexual scholar on television describe most gays as "narcissistic"--focused on themselves and constantly seeking attention."
My thoughts as well. A variant of excessive narcissism.
Here is a description of narcissism, compare it to what one sees in a certain community:
Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Perhaps he's about to show Frodo his wizard's staff. Maybe Sam can play, too.

Count me out in your "we" commentI meant "we" as in America vs Europe. But yeah, I'll be the one behind the 50 cal, sniping the ragheads as they stone the homosexuals.
