'Western media biased against Arabs'

Western media are biased against Arabs, parrot government views and have a negative influence on western understanding of the region, a conference organised by satellite channel al-Jazeera heard today. In a debate on whether world media build bridges or creates divisions, delegates were told that western media - and the US media in particular - need to concentrate on press freedom more than Arabic media and must radically overhaul their coverage of Arabic issues.
Criticism of western media came from both western and Arab journalists and academics.
Marc Lynch, a professor of political science at America's Williams College, said: "After 9/11 a lot of Americans were not responding to the Arabic media, but to what they were being told about the Arabic media.
"The gap between how Arabs and Americans understand the world is enormous ... We need a real dialogue. Americans need to listen to Arabic media and vice-versa. We need Americans on Arab media," he said.
Countering criticism of the western media, the former editor of the Rand Daily Mail, Allister Sparks, said the Arabic world needed to get its own house in order first.

'Western media biased against Arabs'
I'd say western media mostly kisses their arses and makes excuses for their backward ways.
Better way of saying it - we have 2 policies regarding Muslim ass.
I have no problem with Arabs. Muslims are a different matter.
...and al Jazeera treats does beheading stories with great balance.... has the world gone insane?
The media is pro-Arab. But the people here are getting mighty tired of savages who blow up kids and saw people's heads of for fun
Is it just possible that instead of bias, it's the radical Muslim terrorist attacks in numerous countries?
Someone should post the picture of the crying baby. He is especially screechy today, with all those papers printing the cartoons of Mohammed the Pedophile "Prophet".
Oh, that's rich, considering the source.
Those who play the poor victim card always think they're exempt from showing the same fairness they demand.
If there had been a Democrat leading this war since 9/11, a la Bill Clinton style, we'd be fighting in the streets of every U.S. city by now.
Truth in advertising message: Western media are biased against Christians, parrot "ROP" views and have a negative influence on western understanding of the region. Brought to you by jihadist support group Al-Jazzera.
Notice the flow of events recently? Like bin Laden's "truce" offer, the Euro-sissies growing a spine over Islamist protests about (chuckle) cartoon strips (giggle), and now we have their media crying about the need for "a real dialogue" between our peoples.
Sounds to me like someone is LOSING this fight.
It's not time for any "dialogue" - it's time to intensify the attacks!
I know exactly what they mean. Subsequent to 9/11/01, western media kept replaying those images of the WTC on fire and/or collapsing.
Middle Eastern media kept replaying those images also, but with a "cheering crowd" soundtrack.
Just because Mohammed was a mass-murdering pedophile and liar, and just because Arabian-founded Islam has been butchering and enslaving people for about fifteen hundred years, and just because some Arabs from Arabia and Egypt hijacked some airliners and used them to mass murder thousands of people four and a half years ago, after having their flight lessons paid by wealthy Arabs, is no reason for a negative media portrayal of Arabs.
So everyone involved should just cut it out right now.
We wish ...
If there had been large numbers of "moderate" arab/muslim protesters in this country peacefully protesting the evil actions of 9/11 in every city in the US, and the MSM had showed them, it would have gone a long way toward dispelling any "negative image" or "bias." While there were a few protests, they didn't seem to be very large.
All such protests are attached to big buts.
Yep, big buts (or big butts?!) in more way than one.
