my only point is that hispanic americans, whether they be first generation legal immigrants from various countries, or 2nd (3rd, etc) generation american citizens born of immigrant parents - are generally very well assimilated americans (bi-lingualism concerns me, I will admit, but alot of that is a function of the public school systems not teaching english). can you say the same about european muslims? no way.

that said, its the illegals that are messing things up, and very badly at that. I think more naturalized american hispanics are seeing that, that's a consensus that the part of the republican party that is concerned about illegal immigration, needs to tap into.

I suppose it is remotely possible but not probable that Congress is going to change birthright citizenship.

Without an Amendment, I don't possibly see how that could be Constitutitonal.

`(ii) acknowledge that a child born to them during their stay in the United States will not be granted U.S. citizenship unless the other parent is a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident;

Even though I really wish it were not true, section ii is blatently unconstitutional.

"....- are generally very well assimilated americans..."

Maybe so. But there are Democrat "Americans" too.

If you are waiting for the anchor baby issue to be changed, you better bring a lunch.
That was just my point. Until the Anchor Baby aspect is addressed, guest-workers are a fraud and a delusion.

As for the mexican reforms, it is easy to see what hasn't been done and what has been done. We can even rank them. Which reform do you think is most important for Mexico?
Man, you really set up a buffet. Let's just start with controlling OUR borders and let the internal pressures, probably cal. 30, set their agenda.

Your bring a lunch advice is probably correct, as our current bunch of politicians, with a few exceptions, will do nothing more that yell, "Look! There's Elvis!" instead of taking any action. Even gunfire across our border doesn't move them, for Chrissakes.

In the 14th Amendment... The phrase "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" was intended to exclude from automatic citizenship American-born persons whose allegiance to the United States was not complete. In the case of illegal aliens who are temporarily or unlawfully in the United States, because their native country has a claim of allegiance on the child, the completeness of the allegiance to the United States is impaired and logically precludes automatic citizenship.

Birthright citizenship will get weighed in on as we sort through immigration reform. It wouldn't surprise me to see some sort of restriction applied.

I don't know why you have such problems, in 30 seconds I found this article on the subject.

Even Alan Greenspan has suggested that more immigrants may be needed

When I mentioned reforms, I was talking about market reforms.

They have done wonders in transportation, financial services, and manufacturing. Telecommunications is lagging and oil/power generation reforms are almost non-existant.

Maxico has got a huge underground economy that has no equity value. No loan value-no blue sky. It is also untaxable.

I read it. Thank you for yet again wasting my time. Is this Clinton era article supposed to mean something because Greenspan's named is mentioned in passing?

The only thing that has changed since that article was written is the US birth rate, which fell from 16 per 1000 to 14 per 1000.
