(AP) -- After more than a year of delays, the Department of Homeland Security says it plans to launch a preparedness program next month aimed at alerting and preparing children for terror attacks and natural disasters.
The program, called Ready Kids, is scheduled to roll out with TV ads, school programs and other events.
"Ready Kids is a tool for parents and teachers to use to be able to speak to their students and children about how to be prepared for any type of disaster," said DHS spokeswoman Joanna Gonzalez.

I hope this new plan is better than the get under your desk routine we did in grade school in case of a nuclear attack.
I also hope this is better than "Stranger Danger". Man that was terrible.
I don't know has the federal government done anything since you were in grade school to make you think its gotten wiser and less incompetent over the years? :-)
LOL... they had us under the desks for earthquake drills. those desks must be the stuff of bunkers.
"duck and cover part Deux"
You mean a desk cannot shield a child from a nuclear explosion and block the ensuing fallout.
Damn, you beat me to it. Love that part Deux!
as hard as it is to believe no lol.But the same fed gov that brought you that big fat piece of political propaganda is now coming out with this whole new program to keep your kids safe from a terrorist attack and I bet you there will be 25 or 30 percent of the freepers on here eating it up with a spoon and asking for a whip cream topping
wasn't their advice to the teachers in the event of another Columbine style attack to remain in the classroom with the students? That would be the last thing I would do in that situation.
Hindsight is 20/20. That's the point to planing.
You mean like the duct tape and plastic routine we've already witnessed? I believe I'll take care of my own, thanks just the same. Blackbird.
If you could have seen the chaos caused when Houston tried to evacuate for Rita you would never consider relying on the federal government for any plan. They didn't have a way to open both sides of the highways to outbound traffic. It was taking people over 24 hours to drive from Houston to Austin (158 miles) if you left the night before. Luckily I paid attention to the one good weatherman in Houston who said that the storm would downgrade considerably as it hit the long shallow shelf off Galveston (which is what it did) and ended up riding the storm out at home. It was a spectacle to see all those cars on the road though. It was a total CF.
If you didnt buy any duct tape a few years ago because you thought it was a really stupid idea, nows your chance to not buy it again because its still a really stupid idea.
Now when you are in a major jam-
Tyco Plastics & Adhesives (TPA), the worlds largest manufacturer of duct tape, now offers an oversized 12-inch by 30-foot roll of Big Fix duct tape to patch, bond or seal with a single swatch large areas such as holes in tents, loose roofing or tears in plastic sheeting. Big Fixs patent-pending design includes a storage container for portability, convenient cutter for creating custom shapes and release liner for easy application.
More evidence of the decline in American individualism in favor of big government faux security.
