Norma Jean Record, the mother of a Wyoming high school cheerleader, has been convicted of shoving an assistant cheerleading coach. Record was fined 100 dollars and ordered to pay more than $220 in restitution after yesterday's trial.
Record says she's sorry she was rude, but adds a lot of parents had problems with the Campbell County High cheerleading squad this year.
The shoving incident occurred after the homecoming football game a couple of months ago.
Some parents and cheerleaders complained the coaches had the squad doing dangerous and illegal moves.

"Flyers" are the big deal in cheerleading. They want to go as high as possible and their parents don't want their necks to get broken. But they also want them to make flyer on a flying team. It's convaluted.

I know that you are being funny and I have to say that those "moves" were my first thought, but the Nathional Cheerleading Associations have made some of the very high pyramids and flips illegal. The squads were pushing the limits and some people got very hurt.
If this coach was asking the kids to do that I would have been mad too. But lets get real, cheerleading is not life. If I knew that one of my girls were being asked to do something that could lead to her permanent disability (i.e. flipping off the top of a group of kids and landing on her head becomes paralyzed for life) I would pull my KID! I might consider reporting the stunt or bringing a video camera to the practice but physical assault? No way.
