ACLU Sues Polk County Over Display (Florida)

TAMPA - Local American Civil Liberties Union officials are challenging Polk County's requirements for erecting displays in a "free-speech zone" the government established after a Nativity scene dispute last year.

The West Central Florida office of the ACLU filed a federal lawsuit Friday, a week after its application to put up a display in the designated area was rejected.

The free-speech zone is a public forum on county property where people and organizations may express their views. It was created after a Baptist church put up a Nativity scene on county property last Christmas, leading other groups to put up displays, too.

Leave it to the ACLU to attack free speech.

I have done battle with the ACLU in several different forums. They look on the Bill of Rights as an instrument of national suicide. The rights enshrined there are to be stretched to such an extreme as to make them unrecognizable, and at the same time, very dangerous to freedom. They would foster chaos with their version of freedom.

But give them credit, the marxists who inhabit the ACLU are good at what they do and have never waivered from their unwritten goal of destroying America.

WHY haven't the laws which the ACLU abuses to fund their anti-American assaults on everything which matters - been changed to require they FUND THEIR COMMUNIST STUPIDITY THEMSELVES.

100%

If they "care", they'll pay for what they care about.

No more subsidies!!

For the past few decades, the ACLU has been on a major crusade to destroy Christianity in America, promote filth under "freedom of speech and expression," and of course, vigorously defend the homosexual culture of death. On Jan. 10, 1963, Congressman Albert S. Herlong Jr., D-Fla., read a list of 45 communist goals into the Congressional Record. Below are the communist goals being implemented by the ACLU in their quest to destroy America's culture and traditions:

Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions, by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all form of artistic expression. An American communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings," substituting shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.

Control art critics and directors of art museums. "Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art."

Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.

Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio and television.

Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural and healthy."

Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a "religious crutch."

Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the grounds that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state."

Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of "the big picture." Give more emphasis to Russian history since the communists took over. Obliterating the American past, with its antecedents in principles of freedom, liberty and private ownership is a major goal of the communists then and now.

Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture – education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce

When they are challenged they usually lose. They rely on intimidation and the cost of a trail to get their way.

The Alliance Defense Fund has done well against them. The ACLU's response to the existence of the ADF is that it is not needed since "everyone thinks the way they (the ADF) do."

You're absolutley correct; the ACLU members are the philosophical and oftentimes, biological descendents of the original Bolsheviks, who were a tiny minority in Russia as well. Their first aims were to destroy Russia's history, destroy its culture, destroy its religion, destroy countless millions of lives and replace the traditional family structure. Congress, if they can ever tear themselves away from feathering their own nests, needs to push a congressional amendment takiing issues of religion in public places out of the courts' jurisdiction.

Typical leftist response. The only valid groups are leftist groups.

We need to stop spending our tax dollars on the ACLU the very oginazation that is trying to take down our wonderful country..Doesn't it seem odd to you folks we give tax dollars to these commies?

The American Civil Liberties Union (the ACLU) has shown itself to be hostile to religious expression by private citizens and the civil rights of people of faith; and
the ACLU has declared war on the Boy Scouts of America, the military of the United States, Christmas displays, public buildings that display the Ten Commandments, and many other American traditions; and

The United States Congress, roughly thirty years ago, passed a provision in United States Code section 1988 that requires taxpayers to pay attorneys in civil rights cases; and

The ACLU has abused that law to make untold millions of dollars simply by suing boy scouts, school children, military academies, cities and towns, with the goal of punishing any who dare to exercise their First Amendment right to religious freedom and expression; and

The vast majority of taxpayers do not want to be forced to pay the ACLU to sue their neighbors and friends in the ACLU's efforts to strip America of all signs of faith; and

The Establisment Clause of the First Amendment was not contemplated when USC section 1988 was passed;

THEREFORE, the People of the United States call upon their Congress to amend USC section 1988 so that hostile special interest groups such as the ACLU can no longer be granted taxpayer money to attack Americans and their institutions.

We, The People, call upon our elected representatives to amend USC section 1988 so that fees are not awarded to the ACLU or any other plaintiff in Establisment Clause cases. We wish for the Free Expression Clause to implicate at least the same financial incentives as attacks upon faith currently have.

That's how the ACLU makes its money; parasites living off the host and attacking it while they thrive on it. I haven't seen our cowardly Congress take one step toward the sensible legislation you propose; too busy protecting their own perks and trying to get favorable publicity in the Washington Post to do what we elected them to do.

I think they should let the ACLU put up a great big bah-humbug display right next to the Nativity scene and the festival of lights.

I wonder what the ACLU festivus display would say? God is dead and all this is bunk? I'd love to see their festivus display.

Maybe we should also stick this in their faces since they claim to like the UN so much.

United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights:

Article 18
Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.

Good afternoon.

At what point will the municipalities realize that they can tell the ACLU to suck eggs. Let the communist bastids sue to their nasty little heart's content, then tell the judges, juries, and ACLU lawyers that the municipality is in a state of noncompliance. Let the ACLU win by default. How are they going to enforce the judgment?

There is nothing that can be done to punish them. They can screw with an individual or a small business, but no court is going to put all of a city's officials in jail over a creche or a cross and few communities are going to allow it to happen.
